Petition for "Share the Road" license plates in CA

There is currently a petition before the CA legislature to create a "Share the Road" license plate. Oregon, Washington, Florida, Colorado, Kentucky, and other states already have similar "cycling friendly" plates. Fees often go to maintaining bike trails or driver education.

There are currently only 8500 signatures on the CA petition.

Read and/or sign the petition here:
https://www.petitiononline.com/str1234/petition.html

I'd love to have something like this in our state.

I just tried to sign but it said I can't sign twice

If we were in Chicago this wouldn't be a problem.

Not a big fan of those signs. Too vague. I met some motorists that interpreted them as cyclists should stay out of cars way, and ride in the gutter all the time.

^ Agreed, the signs should show a picture of a car moving into the next lane to pass a cyclist or something. Still, the current signs are quite clear to anyone who isn't an ignorant moron. Some interpret it otherwise simply because they interpret anything to their liking.

Anyway, I signed it and would actually purchase said license plate if it came out.

I like the sentiment, but I don't want someone rear-ending me while trying to read "share the road" in tiny type on the plate. I'm not so sure motorists will get it, and I'll be truthful, when I see bumper stickers that espouse one view over another - even if I agree with the view - it sounds preachy to me.

Signed, and would get the plate. I also have a share the road bumper sticker laminated and hanging from my rear rack. Produced by Metro here in LA.
