lol, upper SART is from green river to about the 55fwy thats my usual route when im that area, see ya around!

I usually ride Green River to the ocean, or Weir Canyon to the ocean. From time to time, ride the SART from Hidden Valley nature center in Riveride/Norco to as far as I have time to ride. See ya out there.

My new commuter/dog-taxi, a Globe Live 3:



Funny thing is, I had no idea of or control over what color the dog bed would be when I ordered it at my LPS. (Pet shop.) But it matches the bike so well, some guy approached me near work and asked who made the bike for dogs.

I wasn't too crazy about the OEM beach-cruiser handlebars, so I swapped in a pair of Nitto North Road bars and lowered them. And the blue, dime-sized Formotion clock is another accidental color match--that clock was already on my heavy, old Dutch bike.

Angel's not too crazy about it yet, but I'm taking it back into the shop to get the hydraulic brake lines shortened. (I don't have the tool to affix the fittings to these tiny little brake lines.)

The headbadge has a little frame so you can put in a baseball-card-sized image...

And in addition to the hydraulic disk brakes, and belt-driven IGH, I also ordered an Axa Defender frame lock, which happily bolted directly to the seatstays with permanent threadlock, and also has a braided stainless cable for when I'm forced to park the bike in Oceanside, haha.

^^^ You get that at B&L? I've been trying to convince myself to get one. And yes, the North Road bar is wayyyyy better than what it comes with.

Funny, because it never occurred to me to check B&L. My online search took me way-the-heck down to UC Cyclery in La Jolla. They gave me a good deal (I ain't the haggling type) and I got out the door with CA sales tax for less than MSRP, according to Globe's website.

Other than the handlebars, the gearing being a little too low, a faint clatter in the rear fender (which I will fix easily with some silicon gasket sealer), and my left heel hitting my keyring on the Axa lock (which simply means I won't keep the key on a keyring), I'm utterly delighted with this bike.
It's slicker than owl-poo. You're welcome to take it for a spin, just drop me a line.

Thanks SJ! Not really, no. I still have my dilapidated pickup truck. I've driven it less than 11,000 miles this millennium so far though. I need something to get my kayak to the salt water, the dog-flesh to the park, and help the occasional friend move.

Hey Allen! Missed you on the Tour de Poway--4:57:31!

The belt is great! It made a faint SHH-SHH-SHH noise when new, but after about 200 miles, it's starting to quiet down, (as are the disk brakes.)
It's a Shimano Alfine 8-speed IGH. I'm still getting used to soft-pedaling while upshifting, and I was tempted to ask them to install a grip-shift instead of the thumb-forefinger shift levers, but I'm getting to like them more & more, especially with the North Road bars.
Pity I have to work; every time I look at that bike, I just want to play hooky and take my dog for a cruise to C'bad Village for dinner, and then maybe cruise for chicks on the promenade.

Here are my three rides: Bottecchia, Cannondale and Litespeed

Here are my three rides:

A 1989 Bottecchia with SLX Columbus tubing and Campy Chorus. I have owned this bike since new. Una bella bicicletta Italiana.

A 1999 Cannondale F400 mountain bike, Shimano XT all around. Built like a rock.

A used (new to me) 2003 Litespeed Classic with full Dura Ace group. An All-American Ti beauty.

Calamarichris, a few weeks ago I drove with my daughter to La Jolla for a surfing event. While she participated at the event, I took my Bottecchia out for a spin. Went up the road, then rode by UCSD, and then down the coast all the way to Oceanside. You have some beautiful scnery from La Jolla to Oceanside. There were tons of riders on top of some fancy (and expensive looking) rides. You live in one of the nicests areas in So. Calif. for bike riding. You are lucky!

Thanks Eja. I probably say "God I love living here!" at least once a day. I only have a little one-bedroom condo, but I do feel very lucky indeed, especially after living in Texas.
Drop me a line next time you're in town--I'll show you some rides that will make the coast look like a dingy alley behind a porn shop on the wrong side of the tracks.

Calamari, thanks for the offer. Next time my daughter has a surfing event down La Jolla way, I will be sure to let you know. I live in Ventura County and teh Pacific and PCH are my backyard; my front yard are the hills to the north end of the county. I thought I was pretty spoiled by my riding "territory" but I must admit, the coast ride from La Jolla to Oceanside was pretty darned sweet. LIke I said, tehre were lots of riders on the road and that pushed me to put the hammer down.

The pictures that you posted are two of the places that I rode by when I was down your way. Looking at those pics brings back a big smile.

n00b with 2010 Specialized Roubaix Expert, purchased yesterday from The Path in Orange CA...







I decided to go with a road bike after owning a 2011 Specialized Stump Jumper Comp 29 hardtail for a couple months. I had them swap over the Specialized 150mm seat and Specialized platform pedals from that bike. I put my Stella 400's and Specialized wireless computer on the bike today. I snuck in a quick 5-mile maiden voyage this morning. The rode was wet from last night, but at least I didn't get rained on today!
