University blvd rant
As that blvd wasn't bad enough they are in full swing in destroying it further, and taking their sweet time fixing it. Now I need to take a lane on parts of it before Culver, during morning rush hour. I don't have a problem with it, but it's just an extra stress dealing with all the aholes who can't wait to get to the next red light. One of them layed on the horn for 5 seconds, then proceeded passing me while blaring his horn. I caught up to him at next red light, he tried his best to avoid eyes contact. After that he stayed behind me until I turned left on Culver. He either realized he will just be waiting longer at that red light in a long line of cars or he thought that the crazy cyclist might do something to his car next time (I wouldn't).
I am hoping they will be done soon, and it will actually be improved (from cyclist perspective). I'll see how next few commutes go, if it gets worse I'll start going through Turtle Rock. Commute back is not that bad since it's late in the evening. So all I have to worry about is some driver too busy yapping on the cellphone, and drinking the latter to notice my two blinkers, ankle reflectors, bright yellow messenger bag with reflectors, and runs me over. At which point A&S can have a discussion on how stupid I was for not wearing a helmet, and that was actually my fault. |
UD...what part is torn up? I need to make it from Birch and Von Karman (by the airport) to Sand Canyon Cyclery in less than 30 minutes tonight. Was going to take University, but if there's construction...hmmmm...

I think it's in the name.....the one here in San Diego is a death trap it seems.....i started having to commute on it cause we moved and now it feels more like a when than if i am going to get hit. :(

Cheers. -CJ BTW...anyone else doing the group ride out of Sand Canyon Cyclery tonight?? |

When i saw the post, i thought it was the San Diego one which definitely sucks, even El Cajon Blvd is safer to ride.

Ive been using the bike trail in place of UD to go to work from my house near SandCanyon Cyclery to office near Broadcomm.... Just have to slow down a bit for that esp with the pedestrians.

Well had to take sidewalk for couple blocks today. They removed the asphalt from Michelson to Yale last week. So it's like riding on a cheese grader now. Doesn't look like they are planning on re-paving it in near future, since they are working few blocks down on the other side of the street.

Noticed that this morning, some guys took the sidewalk, but most of us stayed on the cheese grader. I was thinking that I wouldn't want to go down on that stuff. On the other hand, University is smooth as butta on the other side of the street where it's been repaved.
