When is the next one? There are a couple of route revisions we can make that might improve the experience over the final portion of the ride by descending to the finish from Ramona instead of having to climb Wohlford with all of that traffic. I'd be willing to stack all of the climbing in the first half of the ride just to avoid the afternoon conditions on that crappy piece of road.

The mental aspect? I think I would enjoy driving SAG for a change after having had to pedal my way to pie on so many occasions. Pop some good classical music into the CD player and bask in the warmth of heated and deeply bolstered sports seats as the riders freeze their butts off on a wintery Pie Ride. And for once, I can be the fastest in the group going up Palomar! Sounds like fun to me.

Well, I am probably doing a similar ride in 2-3 weeks. I'll keep everyone posted. I'll probably leave from solana and do wolford, then palomar and cole grade and back in. Chuckles, you in?

i think it would have been better to start off at the mall and finish downhill to it and use wohlford in the beginning as a warm up before the climb up south grade.

Possible. Probably. That'll fall right about the time I had originally wanted to do Pie.

I just created the route on bikely, but lost it somehow. It came to about 8000' of climbing over 93 total miles. Of course, we could always take the Bandy Canyon option and ride 78 back to Bear Valley, then back to the mall for a full century. Mileage, as you know, means very little to me. The important thing is that while the front half of the ride has most of the climbing, it's almost all descending to the finish at the mall.

Here's an alternative:

LEFT BEAR VALLEY PKWY
RIGHT E VALLEY PARKWAY
RIGHT LAKE WOHLFORD RD
LEFT VALLEY CENTER RD
RIGHT COLE GRADE RD
RIGHT PALA RD (HWY 76)
LEFT SOUTH GRADE RD
RIGHT EAST GRADE RD
STOP LAKE HENSHAW RESORT
LEFT HWY 76
RIGHT MESA GRANDE RD
RIGHT HWY 79
STOP JULIAN PIE COMPANY

Then continue the route but turn left on Bear Valley Parkway to return to North County Fair. The only question is the lack of a water stop between Lake Wohlford and Palomar. There might be a store in the strip mall on the east side of 76 before the taco shop.

I like the idea of starting from the mall, get a good warm up too. Water stop before Wolford if needed and at the taco shop on the 76

You're right, I'm not a climber. I'm a sprinter who can't sprint.

Nah, you would have been fine. It was a total slogfest for most of us, but the key was just pacing yourself on the climbs. I would have been better off if I had done that.
