Any groups riding to Solana Oct. 25th?

I'm looking for an 80-ish mile ride leaving from Anaheim Amtrak that leaves maybe around 7 or 8 in the morning? If not, no big deal...just inquiring.

i would be interested in this, how much does the amtrak ticket cost? and would it get me from Oceanside to Anaheim that early? I guess I could look this up myself.

Amtrak is $20 from downtown SD to Anaheim last time I took it. You would have to look at the schedule to see if it runs from Oceanside to Anaheim early enough for you.

Would like to get maybe 3 or 4 more riders for a little group or something...

If you want to do about 85, ride to San Clemente, meet with the group at Kalani's (El Camino and PCH next to the Metrolink stop), ride to Solana Beach and ride home.

This sounds like fun. So who's all in?

I just need to get back to Irvine before 3pm.

I'm up for whatever. Just tell me what we're doing and where to meet. I'm pretty new to the PCH thing (did it once about a month ago as some may remember my last post on the topic). I'll leave it up to the people more experienced with routing and such. I'd be coming from Claremont so if we start at the train station so we can end at it, that's ideal.

So far looks like:

Me
oc rider
ir0nfist - need confirmation

Anyone else? I say a Pizza Port finish is a good choice. Besides, it's a good reason to get to meet some of you wackos! lol j/k =)

So this will be like the Pizza Port ride a few months ago? What's the pace?

I'm trying to get some more interest in the ride. If I can convince Beanz and Gina to go, SoCalBoomer will go too. That will help anyone that's not up for like a 20 mph pace. I personally like riding around 20. I think that would give us a good spread of speeds range so that nobody needs to worry about riding alone. Of course, the faster group could also plan stops to wait up for the others along the way.

I'm just wanting to get out and ride with some new people and have fun so I'm up for whatever as long as it isn't a 15 mph pace. Last time I did this was with only one other person and it was boring. I met up with a club after Torrey Pines on my way to downtown...maybe about 10 riders and had a blast. I'd like to get a good little group or something to make if fun...chit chat and whatnot.

Thanks for the invite but Gina's more of a sissy than I am when it comes to hills. The hills really slow her down and I'm sure we'd be hours behind the rest!

I have been trying to get her on GMR for some hill work but everytime we plan a ride, it rains! She's got that raindance down good!

Hey mtv8dmarine, pm me the meeting place or post it here. I agree with you, riding with only 1 other person can get boring. If you don't get enough interested, would you be interested in doing a fast pace group ride? It will be about 50 ish miles. Just let me know.

hey Beanz,

tell her that you'll do just Saturday and make Sunday a "date day" or something - 85 in one day at our pace (yours, mine, and Gina's) should be great. I absolutely hate hills as well, so we'll just toodle up, recover nicely and continue on. The hills to Solano aren't that tall. . . it's just trying to keep up with and continually catch Mtv8dmarine that kill me. . . if it's the three of us, it would be fun!

She's just not good at all when it comes to hills. Sometimes we ride up to Devore and she'll do well on the 40 roundtrip. Sometimes she's way off and it's nothing but a big struggle. But she's always wiped after the 40. We did a forum ride up GMR from Encanto. She had an offday and was struggling as soon as we hit Sierra Madre from the SGRT.

Thank goodness we only did the first 8 of GMR. The group had been waiting quite a while for us! So with her it's a hit and miss depending on her abilities that day. I'd hate to ride out 40 miles then she decides she can't continue. Stuck in the middle would only be torture. It's happened before so it's a bet I'm not willing to take especially since she hasn't done ANY hills lately!

If I torture her, she won't buy me bike stuff!

Yea, I would do that, but I lack the motivation to ride alone that early in the cold morning to meet up with them. Which is funny because in a group ride of people going a similar pace I am usually the one trying to keep everyone together and up to pace. I could be super lazy and just meet them at the front gate of Pendelton. lol.

So then meet us at the front gate of Camp Pendleton. =)

Let me know what you want to do. oc will be giving me a call tomorrow night to confirm plans for the morning. I'll shoot you a pm and give you my cell that way you can give me a holler tomorrow if it's more convenient so I know if you want to meet up and join.

Ok. I'm meeting anyone that wants to ride down to Solana via PCH at the gate opening on the southbound side of PCH and the SART (closest to the ocean) at 8 am tomorrow.

Just figured I'd throw that out there for anyone that might decide to go along that can do 18+. We will be going through Camp Pendleton so bring your driver's license. Final stop will be at Pizza Port for lunch and then home after that. Whether you ride home or take the train is up to you. I will be leaving my house around 6:45 and will check my PM box before I leave. If you decide to go shoot me a PM.

I'll be wearing my PBK kit colored like my skinsuit in the avatar pic (for better detail you can check out the larger pic on my blog - link in signature area). I'll probably have my Spinergy aero wheels on the bike because I'll probably be too lazy to stick my Bontragers on and retune the shifting since it's quite a bit different and can be fussy (see other recent post about how many bikes can you have for a a pic of my road bike).

Rode with oc rider. Cool guy. Had fun. Pretty obvious by the time we got to Pendleton who the crit racer was and who the TT racer was. Totally different racing styles. Pizza Port was delicious as always.

Just about 84 miles in 4:24.

I thought about cancelling my planned ride and going with you guys but I'm glad I didn't. I did 75.06 miles in 5:47.

Hey Scott!

It was nice to meet you and I enjoyed the ride! I think that I have finally recovered..lol

Sorry about the surges, but I guess that's my type A / crit racer personality coming out. I'm used to chasing people down and then drafting along til I recover and then attack again!! It was all in fun. The next time we do this, I won't be pressured into trying to get back by a certain time. BTW the Halloween party was a blast! I sat down all night...

Catch you later!!

No biggie. =) My legs were good on Sunday. My shoulders and neck were a different story. Oh, and bike shifts down to the small chainring now that I got to have a look at the front dérailleur. I should have done that one one of our brief stops.
