Chuck, this is the internet! It was 26 mph!

Yeah Dutchie, I can't talk, breath or see straight trying to keep up with you while you're riding singing Barry Manilow's "Mandy"!

Yup, talked to Eric, he told me about your Misson reunion. I told him that you were a good climber, so if he asks, say yes!

Beanz,

Me singing Barry Manilow tunes, I don't think so. I usually stick to the tunes of my youth, you know, ones like Battle Hymn of the Republic.

If Eric asks me about climbing, I'll tell him I learned everything I know from the infamous Mr. Beanz. That should let him know I'm serious about my climbing.

Best is defined as what? Steepest, fastest, least traffic? The route I know is this and it is quite challenging:

From the park go to Imperial.

South at Imperial and it climbs straight up into the sky for a couple of miles and becomes Cannon.

You'll reach Santiago Canyon Road. Turn left and keep going. You'll see Cook's Corner in about 16 miles. I mapped it for you:

Boy Mr. Beanz for a big guy you're pretty stealthy with the camera. That's twice you've done that. The last time I could sort of tell by the big grin that something was up, but not this time.

The Dutch Boy and I did work together back in the day. And we actually knew how to work. That's something that I don't see in today's youth. Of course I only see them when I'm yelling at them to "Get off my lawn, dag nab it!!!!"

That is excellent for a ride thru the mountains. You should try the "King of the Mountains" series next year!

When you posted them, I only saw a red x in a little box. I used "reply with quote" on your post so that I could copy the link to the picture. I posted it in my browser and went directly to the link and viewed the picture. When I came back to the thread, that one picture was viewable. But the other was still a red x. So I did the same for that picture and when I came back, they both were viewable.

I don't know why but it worked!

Potato or bust

Today, I had a Beanz experience. We climbed The Potato Mountain. Watching Beanz climb was amazing. Dirt or pavement, he can do it all.

On this forum, we see a lot of riders, but not too many pics of the Mayor himself.

The shroud has been lifted…

Relaxed and rested before our ride

First rest stop

Climbing

Hey, the Mayor climbs too fast for the camera

More climbing

Best shot of the day; behind the scenes look. I don’t know how he does this.

“Come on, eyemage, move you’re a$$ up the freaking mountain.”

Finally, we made it to the summit

Made it to SART on Saturday and the ride turned out nice. Took a group of 8 to 10 and had lunch in Huntington and went back to Yorba Linda. Made about the best time we ever have as a group. A saw the Beanz on the road. I was wondering is anyone knew what happened with that Fire Truck parked on the trail?

Sunday the 23rd...Nobody around but us Condoritas! The woman has been RIDING! She's ahead of Gina on bikejournal () and uhhh (cough cough!) a few others from the forum. You know who you are!

Getting dropped on a climb by the lady in blue

Dropped on another climb

Now she's pulling away!

Then she has the nerve to laugh at me!

And she seemed to innocent sitting at the rest stop with her trusted Bianchi "Orion".

Flush with my success on riding a 100 miles on Monday, I foolishly followed that up on Wednesday with another 100. Foolish becuase the next day I got up at four AM and drove up to Bishop to go backpacking, eventually ending up at around 10,400ft. The lack of sleep, the heat, the elevation and oh yeah that 100 miles the day before knackered me. But I did make it. Great trip except for the 10 hours of rain on the last night in a one-man tent that started to leak about 5 hours into the ordeal. I'll walk up mountains Beanz even with 30 pounds on my back, but as for riding up them, I'll leave it to mountain goats like you.

Midnight Lake with Mt. Darwin in the background at right

On a ridge between Drunken Sailor Lake and Hungry Packer Lake. Picture Peak on the right with Clyde Spire in the background over its left shoulder

Sunset Lake at around 11,500ft with Mt. Powell in the background.

Here it comes.

I plan on riding the SART this Saturday, are there any groups going? I rode the trail for the first time and the last time so far back in April. So far, this time I'll just go to the end of the trail, I don't need the 100 mile ride this time. I plan to start at Hwy 1.

Wed August 26...31 miles from home towards Devore. On the return I saw the top of Archibald and figured, "hey, why not?........ It's only about a mile but a tough one. I've seen only 2 other guys ride up and they zig zagged. It was tough but I was just happy to go straight up althought near the top, I was only doing 4 mph!

Form the top of Archibald looking down.

I looked at that Archibald Avenue on the Google Map and it is a formidable climb indeed. This last mile up is a bit over 13% grade average.

Reall? Wow, I was thinking maybe 10% but that will teach me! Next time do it early in the ride, not at the end!

8/27........39 miles from home up to Devore. Supposed to hit 106 today but it hit 97 on me. Didn't feel to bad though. I could tell it was dry and getting hotter. Today I used more water than normal on this course. My glutes felt a little fatigue but maybe it was the 13% grade on Archibald the day before!

Long dry grade, didn't see any other cyclists in the area.

Pffft! Wish I could do 25 up these hills!

Like a desert out here!
