Parking on PCH

Just wondering if someone (Malibu local like KiddSisko?) can help me out with a parking question about PCH.

I can't remember if parking is allowed off of PCH, say in and around Latigo Canyon road. I don't recall seeing any no parking signs around there, but also don't remember seeing many vehicles parked on the north side (non-ocean side). Is parking allowed on one side of PCH? Both? Again, interested in the stretch 0.25 miles either side of Latigo.

If not, what is the best non-paying place to park around there?

Try using google maps with the satellite view and zoom in.
I recall we used to park on the beach side right there to go surfing in the gated area.
Down less than a mile would be public beach with parking on the beach side as well.

People park right at the start of Latigo. Otherwise, the signage on PCH and surrounding areas is pretty clear, so you can trust whatever you see. Personally, I wouldn't feel so secure parking on PCH or on Latigo itself.

I often leave my car at the Malibu Bluffs Park (PCH and Malibu Cyn. Rd). It's three miles to Latigo (which allows for a brief warm-up), is clean and free, and there's bathrooms. I feel my car is pretty safe there, as there's lots of people working out, kids playing little league, dog walkers and the like.

Great MILF zone, too... ;)

Hey Paul... how have you been? Riding much?

Depending on what car you drive, parking along PCH in that Latigo region should be fine. That aside, I agree with you on the Bluffs park option as well as the MILFs. It's also fun to finish a ride with a hilltop finish. One last kick in the rear. And, a show for the milfs.

If you want to avoid the hilltop top finish you can also park on the beach side of PCH at Corral Beach. It is just north of the of Bluffs park down the hill across the street from Malibu Seafood.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't known about Malibu Bluffs Park. From google satellite, it doesn't look like there is much parking there. Does parking fill up early?

Also, why the concern about parking on PCH? Is there an issue with cars getting broken into?

It can fill up, depending on Little League games, mostly. During the winter, it's almost always easy to find a spot. Worst case is park along PCH nearby, or there's always room down the hill (north) by the Malibu civic center- gives your legs a little bit more of a workout.

There's no known problems with security along PCH, it's more my concern about leaving my car in a slightly more isolated spot, like at the beginning of Latigo. I believe lots of people around can be a deterrent to break-ins/vandalism.

I've never had a problem finding a spot at the Bluffs park, either on little league days, or during a major event. It's bigger than the sat image suggests.

My favorite place to park is on Topanga Canyon just off of PCH. Plenty of shoulder to park on without bugging any shop owners, and it's a nice flat warm up along the PCH for like 5 miles to get to Latigo.

And it has that sweet half mile or so hump up to the Bluffs Park (PCH and Malibu Canyon Rd). The charity ride this time last year with a good 70+ riders began at the courthouse and headed toward Latigo. The group started out nice and tight, but once on that hump the group began to string out dramatically. Funny how that happens.

Yeah, your idea of "nice" doesn't agree with mine. This is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. If I thought that stretch of road was safe to ride, I'd just ride from home.
