Long Beach Criterium 3/1
Hi.
I was wondering if anyone going to do it in the 4's and won't mind giving me a ride from Irvine there? I'll pitch in for gas, and I promise I won't sing "99 packets of GUgel on the wall".

If you have to, why not ride there? Irvine isn't too far, just start early and take it easy so you don't kill yourself before racing. Make it your warmup. I'm in Torrance, the distance isn't what's bad for me, it's the areas I have to go through. I really don't want to have to go through Wilmington at night. If the areas were better I would be riding to school everyday.
I'm in crappy shape right now, school has me up till hours in the morning studying and doing work this whole month, I'm getting sick. So I won't be going to race. I haven't raced before but I've been looking forward to Eldo, I might later on when I feel better and get back into what i feel is decent shape.
I'm at CSULB and a we're looking to get a cycling team organized and I know a few people are going to watch. I might as well.

Solid CAT 4 pack fodder. I tried to go for the prims, but seems to always be a tad too far back. I need to work on that. With 5 laps to go it got REALLY sketchy resulting in a big crash right next to me. After that things didn't improve much. I got stuck in the middle on the outside, just didn't have the nerve to move up with all the sketchiness. Well mainly I just didn't have the nerve, and just wanted to finish this thing in one piece. Yep I do need to HTFU. During the final sprint, two riders managed to take each other out.
This is the second time I rode this course and seems like it is the same story. It gets really really sketchy towards the end. Much more then in other races. The funny part was this really tall guy in white Helens kit. After the crash he kept screaming and *****ing at people at the front to pick up the pace. I think I told him "Dude you want higher pace go work at the front, screaming at people won't accomplish much". He didn't listen and continued to complain. Then after the race on a kool down lap, he was at it again *****ing and whining at all the other people who prevented him from placing. Real class act.

I keep thinking about doing crits again and then you guys remind me why I stopped doing them all those years ago. With trying to grow my business, I really can't afford to end up in the hospital. Be careful out there boys (and girls).

They kinda ran together in my head as well. Just one big crash-fest with a little siesta in the middle. I came out of it clean as well, but barely.
It's funny but about 1/2 way through the 30+ race I thought to myself, "I'm physically OK, but mentally I'm having fatigue trouble." It was just constantly covering your front wheel and scanning for the next big crash. Oddly enough, I felt like I was riding fairly well, but the stuff going on around me was crazy.

I'll never figure out why cat 4 racers feel compelled to yell directions like they know what they were doing. News flash: you woun't be in cat 4 if you knew enough to give directions! I just do my own race, stay out of trouble, and watch for the morons to avoid... it's worked well enough for me so far.

Shopping for a new bike almost from a hospital bed. X-rays turned out ok but the road rash hurt like hell. All I remember from that crash was a Kahala guy leaning on me in the turn.. It seemed like the crash happened in slow motion!!!

So I did the 30+ 3/4 race... all the crashes were well behind me as I stayed up front most of the race. I can't understand why people freak out on this course, THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUE CORNER! (turn 4).
Those of you who caused the crashes, please just stay home this Sunday.

EDGE will have 6 or 7 guys racing the 30+ 3/4. See you there! (I'll be the only guy in the pack with a Landshark).
