I was up there yesterday with a buddy. We started at Encanto Park and went up Hwy 39 to East Fork then up GRR to the village. We went back via GMR and Sierra Madre. My Garmin showed 62 miles with 6,000 ft of climbing. We watched a little of the San Dimas Stage Race, Stage 1 hill climb on our way down the mountain. My friend had never done the ride before and he loved it.

GMR was closed today but the working crew let us pass through the construction area 5 miles from the gate. I think they are installing a pipe drain. Went to Camp Williams and back to GMR for about 30 miles total. The 2nd GMR gate has also closed sign.

Thanks Ron! Last time they did construction up there they worked during the week and opened the road on weekends. Hope it's that way this time!

OK, what is Camp Williams?

Ahhhh, ok. I don't usually go that way but now that you mention it, there is a little campground near the cafe.

I would love to tackle that ride with a group sometime soon, but alas, I am a fred. I also don't have the money to rid me of this condition (which is humiliatingly bad btw) :[
EDIT: That and I have no idea if I would be able to keep up... In fact, I think I'm going to do this ride tomorrow to see how long it takes me to get to east fork road

Cafe was closed that day. Maybe they're closed on weekdays. It's a good place for your photo-ops. Camp Wiliiams back to GMR is a better option than doing GMR repeats especially on a weekday ride, I think.

You can determine that information by going to the Map My Ride site and creating any route you want to determine distance and elevation. It will also tell you percent of grade at regular intervals along the route if you're concerned about your ability to negotiate the terrain. Encanto Park to East Fork Rd. by the San Gabriel River bike path and Hwy 39 is about 11 miles.

Don't know where Beanz wants to start since the sun comes up earlier for him. I'll start at Encanto Park around 8 or quarter after. If you start from home about 9, I might make it to the lodge in time to meet you for lunch.

Whatever makes your boat float!
............From Encanto or the bottom of GMR (where we turn off Sierra Madre to head up, see insturctions in previous post).
Any start time, any place. I believe Encanto will make it a 55 miler. The bottom of GMR will make it 42. You choose, either one is good. We stick together, no drop and I mean a no drop ride.
8:30 is good if you can't choose. Either location, the mielage is up to you. Need a warmup? want shorter miles? It's all up to you girrly!
