Tips for riding down to San Diego???

Hi there! Tomorrow my friend and I are going to use a mix of public transport and our bicycles to get to San Diego tomorrow.

We will start from Laguna in orange county. We might take the metrolink from Laguna to Oceanside then bike from Oceanside to San Diego.

I know I could bike from Laguna to San Diego directly if I were alone, but my friend cannot, which I don't mind cause I'm proud that she is trying this new feat anyway!

I am completely unfamiliar with biking in SD county and I will be using google-maps-walking-directions. Do you have any tips about what roads to choose between Oceanside and San Diego? How challenging is it? Are there steep hills? Are there alternatives? Do the roads stay near the beach so it stays generally sea level? Are there narrow/dangerous roads to watch out for?

Anything will help prepare for my journey to be trouble free. Thank you!!!

Oceanside Transit Center is on Tremont Street. Go south on Tremont, right on Wisconsin and left on Pacific Street. Once you are on Pacific St, you can follow the Burrito Century route slip. You'll be at about the 63 mile mark. It ends up at the downtown San Diego amtrak station.

The Burrito Century route slip is at https://www.geocities.com/grumpypig/ It's the 6th route slip from the top.

only big hill is Torrey Pines... which is 1.5 miles long and has 500 feet of elevation gain.
