They waved! They almost never wave!
This morning while driving along PCH through Malibu, I spotted a train of 8 cyclists up ahead going my direction. They were all kitted up (red and black was the theme) and hauling along in a nice line with the wind to their backs. As I passed in the far lane I gave them a few light horn taps. While waving so they knew it was a friendly gesture, I looked in the mirror and saw at least 4 of them wave back. That almost never happens. I don't expect anyone to take their hands off the cockpit in a tight group situation. I figure it was the perfect weather, the tailwind, and the less than normal traffic. Happiness is contagious.

I wish the cycling community was more like the subie community, if you drive a subie and you wave you always get a wave back. |
What's a subie?

What time was this? We saw a group of cyclists driving North on PCH heading towards and through Malibu today too. Would be a small world if it were the same group :)

Time was approx 11:30am, and they were heading south. Of course, at one point they could very well have been going north, did a climb or two, then reversed course.

Included in the August 2009 edition of Road Bike Action magazine is their list of 102 tips to make you to a better cyclist. Among the 102 is what they consider one of the most important: Be sure to wave at other cyclists.
Last night while driving over Topanga Canyon heading into the valley, ahead of me at one point was a guy on a bike hammering up the hill. I know the particular section he was on very well because it's a regular workout run for me. You can't hammer there without feeling some pain, so I had to give him an encouragement toot as I passed. Gave me the chills seeing someone go all out on that hill. |
Tinker Juarez said hello as he flew by me on the SGRT yesterday.

Curious, what number did it rank? My doc just confirmed I'm getting a repetitive strain injury from all the waving I do. Also, my "bell thumb" is becoming arthritic...:D |

I've actually had to use the darned thing. I don't have a wave injury, but I do think I need to make some general adjustments on the bike now that I've finally got my arse on it and done a TAD riding. |
I'm happy to hear that you are riding!
