One of my co-workers has done this, and enjoyed it. He and his wife go on their tandem. I think they've been a few times. Be prepared for crowds...

^+1 Don't expect to beat your PR for 50 miles. It's like the Hollywood Fwy during rush hour, but everyone's on a bicycle, and many have a BAC over .08%, so it's a pretty festive atmosphere. (As long as you don't notice the emaciated little Mexican kids lining the side of the road to watch the chubby American tourists roll by. )

Riding back sounds like a keen flavor of hell. The road is pretty rough in places and you'll probably have a stiff headwind coming back in the afternoon.

Isn't this the last year, or something?

I know people who love this ride.

I've never been. I've considered it, but somehow never got beyond just thinking about it.

Don't you have to have a passport now, too?
