Gee I'm sorry to hear that. Newcomb's has a real history. I hope the current economic slump doesn't effect the rebuild...
Chilao burnt, also?

I think Hidden Springs is gone. At least I think that is what I saw on TV. It did look to me like that was it. The news refered to it as a cafe.

I'm wondering if Millard Falls and Cheney Trail burned? They're quite close to the city of Pasadena and I used to go there ALOT when I was in my very early twenties.

???
this from a friend at another Forum...
V sent this to me a little while ago (but not official) https://mayorsam.blogspot.com/search/...mb%27s%20ranch
"Newcomb's survives!!"
Great news this morning via the Fullerton office of Angeles Crest Christian Camp.
Newcomb's Ranch is still standing and serving food and drinks to firefighters. Firefighters are currently setting backfires in the Devil's Canyon area to provide further protection.
Further, more than 300 firefighters are based at Christian Camp and working to protect the camps and creating firebreaks to stop the progression of the fire which is burning in the southern area of Chilao. Camp Eaton, Valcrest and the Horse Flats areas are safe.
The southeastern flank of the fire is burning in the San Gabriel Wilderness Area. This area has not burn since the 1920's. Look for the fire to chew through this brush and make its way east to Hwy. 39 near Crystal Lake and south towards foothills communities such as Sierra Madre Monrovia and Duarte.
Simply, these decades of fuel loading needed some sort of release and the Station Fire is now doing the cleansing which was long overdue.
** Just talk to a LAFD Paramedic (Station 81) who is providing on site first-aid at Christian Camp, who verify the above information. Great Thanks to all our Firefighters!!

Interesting...
Very interesting. I found post about "Carlos" a bartender who sent a text saying the restaurant was catching fire.

oh, that's good. I just found this update in reference to this Carlos person.
https://www.bayarearidersforum.com/fo....php?p=5257711
I just got this so I hope I was wrong and Newcombs is still there.
Just spoke with Tod who lives at Waterman and is still up there with a complete line of sight of the fire. He confirmed what Carlos said that as of 8:30 this morning Newcomb had not been touched yet. "There is a lot of fire down there. Chileo and cal trans were burned out, Mt. Pacifico and the nearby christian camps are gone too. Victor the maintenace man is still at the ranch. About 150 fireman are at the Newcomb area working to protect it. There still remains a great possibility with the fire heading east that Newcombs may get hit".
looks good so far for Newcombs.

"Despite rumors that it burned down, Newcomb's Ranch Restaurant along Angeles Crest Highway was undamaged.
The fire came within half a mile of the restaurant Thursday, according to U.S. Forest Service sources.
Owner Darren Martinelli wasn't sure what happened to the popular motorcycle hangout until a firefighter friend told him the fire skipped over the restaurant. 'We just got the news an hour ago that it's safe," Martinelli said Thursday afternoon. "They say the big trees are still standing there... we'll be a small island of green up there.'"
FUll report here.
