Castaic Lake to Pine Mountain Sat. 9/19
Looking for some new climbing routes, I headed up to Castaic to ride with Vertical Bob and some of the Valley crew - Laura, John and Stan. 90 mi/8500'. Warm, sunny day. Great route. Used by the Adobo Velo club in their 'Tour de Francis' and, of course, we meet Francis himself out on Pine Canyon training with some buddies. Very quiet area, little traffic. Hydrate's the word out there - only one store (Papas in Lake Hughes) and it gets warm. Nice ride VB, thanks.

It's a mellow ride
The turnaround atop 'Old Ridge Route'
Local artisan family's ranch out on Pine Canyon Road. Cool folks. Filled some water bottles for us from their kitchen and offered use of the hose across the street when neede.
Shearing one of their sheep
Emery! So nice of 'El Mirage' to wave us down and load us up with water and ice! Ha, unbelievable...thanks Emery!
The way back...really good, tough climbs back up Lake Hughes Road with some long, winding descents. Worth the effort...great views.
Castaic Lake...final descent and it's a great ride into town from up here.
