ISO Cyclist friendly hotel in San Luis Obispo :)
 

Looking for a cyclist friendly hotel in SLO. It'll be our first time out there so we're looking for a place that's fairly central to good riding. If you've visited there and had a good experience please let us know where you stayed.

Any other tips would be appreciated,too. If you have a ride that you really like or a restaurant that you like, please feel free to share.

I stayed in SLO alot generally doing event rides (Wildflower; Lighthouse etc). My favorite hotel is the Travellodge on Monterey. Rates are reasonable. Its a few doors down from the Apple Inn and other good restaurants. It's also walking distance from a bike shop and downtown. Easy access to the 101 if you are driving up to Paso. Here's the information - note there are two Travellodges in SLO - I always stay at the one on Monterey:

If you don't mind paying alittle more - in the back, upstairs and down, they have 2 huge rooms with great views...

If you are doing the winery ride, you just head down south 2 blocks turn left and you are on the route. Otherwise you can ride through down and out pass the Madonna Inn towards Avila Beach for great cycling. If you need some route slips (or ride suggestions) check at the SLOBC.org bike club website.

My GF and I just vistited in July, we stayed at Le Petit Soleil and loved it. Great breakfasts, fun rooms, walking distance from downtown. The staff was great, they locked our bikes in their meeting room for us after we checked out and still wanted to explore.

We rode to Avila beach the first day, and Morro Bay (via Los Osos Valley Rd to Turri Rd) the next and enjoyed them both.

Check out Bon Temps Creole Cafe, they had a cool little blues band the night we went.

mountain biking, road or both?
Madonna Inn is crazy kooky fun so I think it's worth a visit. You will enjoy it. There is a great mountain bike trail nearby as well.

Eat at the Splash Cafe in downtown Pismo. Bread bowl chowder is the best ever!

I used to put a three day bike tour on the Central Coast and used the Royal Oak Inn for our accommondations. We always parked the bikes in the rooms with no problems. The rooms a large and well equiped. If you need any help with routes, food or bike shops drop me a pm.

Los Padres Inn on Monterey St. Friendly owners, nice rooms, reasonable prices.

I live in Los Osos, 11 miles west of SLO, so I've never stayed in a hotel and can't help you. However, I can recommend some good rides. How far are you thinking? Hilly or not so much? Wide bike lanes a must or not? What kind of attractions do you like?

In the meantime, check out the SLOBC website (www.slobc.org) There are some recommended rides there. Click on "Local Rides" and you'll get four links to various categories of rides. There are a lot to choose from.

I've had good luck at the Garden Street Inn. They have a bike rack. It can be a bit noisy on weekend nights, but it's a cute place and it's a B&B, so you get yummy food. Also a cheese and wine hour in the evenings. And it's right downtown, so there's tons of stuff to do in crawling distance.

I've also stayed there - it's abit more expensive than the Travelodge but very nice. My rom had a big ole claw foot tub in it!
