Does Mr. Beanz qualify?

I want to know if you people out there are thinking like I do, in that Mr. Beanz needs a pass to be parking himself on the side of the road. What do you say?
By the way, that is up near the Crystal Lake turnoff on Highway 39 taken today. |
yes, he was stopped with his wheels on the traffic side of the fog line:D does it matter if he was on the forest side of the sign?
|
I might need two passes for all them masses!:D...How about a video?..............Hillbasher and I up 39 to the Crystal Lake turnout. My first time up, ran out of water so I refused HB's offer to contiue. Playing it safe! I'm not a sissy, just delicate!:D
Every so often HB would tell me that we were passed the tough part. Hmmm, it was the same all the way up! I don't trust that guy anymore!..It was a good fun ride though. Next time we will go further! Nice big clear roads, not traffic, roads closed! 3300ft of climbing today and a sign that I ate too many tamal;es over the holidays! http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4045/...2a12c7d9_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2687/...8f44a494_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2755/...eeb80801_o.jpg |
He probably wasn't there very long. How far up did you go? Any snow?
Crystal Lake, o.k. People drink from the stream where it comes out of theh rocks. |
Some pics from Hillbasher's camera!:D

Really, pretty nice ride. I was just lost since it was my first time. I was thinking that we were never going to reach the CL turnoff. Next thing I know, we are there! Then I decided it wasn't that bad. I'm sure it's better the second time since I'll know a little more about the climb. I was really shocked that it got pretty warm. The bottom was a cold mtn chill so we wore leg and upper body cover. Half mile up, we were tearing off layers. Another half mile, more layers!:D |
Very nice guys and glad you did it. I don't think I am ready for it, but am working on it. As I posted in the other thread, my goal is to ride to Wrightwood.
Also, I have ridden the upper portions of Hwy 39 years ago, it is a much more capable grade than the portions leading up to Crystal Lake. |

Thanks for the video Beanz! I've never ridden up that way, but have ridden the descent after doing the climb from La Canada Flintridge, up the 2 all the way to the barrier at the 39, i.e. before starting the climb to Dawson Saddle.
It looks like you took the 39 up to Crystal Lake and then rode back the same way. Rick / OCRR |

Yup, out and back. I've never been that way before so I wanted to see what it was like before going any further or starting from Encanto.:D
I've started from Encanto a couple of times, ridden a maze of back-streets through Duarte, Agoura Hills and Pasadena before arriving at the 2 near the 210. I followed other riders who knew the way, I doubt I could do it again without a route sheet. Anyway, from there you can't get lost, just take the 2 to the 39 and 39 back to the bike path that leads to Encanto. I think it's 80 miles with 8,000 feet of climbing; nice loop! Thanks to Vertical Bob and friends for showing it to me. Rick / OCRR |
Duarte, Monrovia, Arcadia, Sierra Madre, maybe, but Agoura Hills? Have to think about that one. Ok, thought about it and you either got lost or, ya, that's it, you must have got lost.
