GMR Stage Race

Just got back from watching the TT on GMR. Fairly boring seeing how you stay in one place and watch numerous riders go by one at a time,(at the first swtchback where you can lookdown and see the city of Glendora) or, as we did, then hike down to the staging area and watched racers taking off every 30 seconds. Will post some pics later this afternoon.

Was up at the first switchback that overlooks Glendora about 1 PM. These are the lower catagory racers, as the Cat. 1/Pros were not starting until around 4PM I believe. Enjoy.

That's exactly what I did from 11am to 5pm..........sat there waiting for riders to go by! I was out there taking pictures, though, so at least it's not as depressing as it sounds.

So, how many aero helmets showed up and on an uphill TT isn't that a bit unnecessary? I wonder if that guy you posted didn't realize it was a hill stage? Especially only 3.7 miles i can't imagine the aero kit would have a huge effect uphill.

The average speed of the fastest guys is 16+ mph, and even I did 20mph for the first mile. The aero stuff can certainly help for the flatter parts more than they penalize on the steeper parts. The average is only 5 something percent.

At Callville in Nevada the average was about 3-4 percent and it was enough that full on tt bike setups were popular and faster.

These are either right before your start, right after your start, or bits and pieces of you are in these shots. Take your pick. Where you happy with your time yesterday?

Satisfied... no, I wouldn't go that far. Nope, not satisifed at all.

Today was better. I finished with the field and didn't get miss the time cut like last year. Which means I get to suffer more tomorrow

Well good luck tomorrow. My hat is off to those of you that are out there racing. Wish I had it in me. So do they have classifications for 55 year old out of shape guys?

Well if he can do that to you, I will be content taking pictures of you guys. I do not have anything against being last, as someone has to be there, but I don't want to fall off my bike trying to keep up with someone I have no chance of doing that with. Taking pics is fun for me anyway.

I should be able to do 290+ for an hour and for 15 minutes 310 was my target. I did 325 for 10 minutes in a workout during the week.

My current theory is that I was dehydrated as I later realized it was really f'ng hot and I hadn't had more than half a bottle to drink all day. Stupid, I know. I chain-drank 4 sodas immediately after.

If you were on the climb around the time umd went, you might have seen me. I was riding up in my jeans carrying a backpack with the Canon 1D with a 70-200 lens. Heavy. I made it up to 1KM to go before I needed to turn around to meet Fauxto Nick
