help! road bike rental in san diego area

taking a trip in august with the wife to the san diego area, will be staying at some resort the missus picked out.

i'm looking forward to leaving her poolside to get in a full day or two of road riding, can someone point me to a bike shop that rents proper road bikes?

google seems to be zero help, all i'm finding are hybrids and beach cruisers for rent, anyone??

i'll have a rental car so i can pick it up basically wherever.

also if anyone would like to suggest some moderately challenging 75 - 100 mile socal rides, i would be very interested.

Nytro in Leucadia (/Encinitas) rents pretty decent bikes: https://www.nytro.com/

Possibly also B&L in Solana Beach: https://www.blbikes.com/

For some decent routes in North San Diego County, click here. Drop me a line when you get here. I might be available to show you around.

After having a friend visiting and bringing his own bike, I'm of the opinion that you just rent a bike box and bring your own bike since the fit will be better and the price difference probably won't be much different vs renting for a few days.

If you are looking for an epic ride with lots of climbing, eastern San Diego County offers lots of possibilities. You can climb Mount Laguna via three different ascents. This site has good maps and elevation graphs:

calamari- we are actually thinking of getting some local BFers together for a ride when the op comes down. you have some nice routs lined up, the op definitely has to get some beautiful cardiff coastal riding in

also. op is staying closer to mission beach. i was thinking moment cycle sport. they give you a giant defy with a triple but when you mentioned B+L i also remembered there is a B+L on rosecrans in ob.

The UCSD bike shop is small, but rents bikes and is staffed by good guys. They have lots of commuter bikes, but also roadbikes too. You could give them a call.

As you look for good routes, the Jerry Schad book about San Diego County is excellent. You can order it very inexpensively on Amazon and plan your rides before you arrive in San Diego.

I recently met someone for a ride in San Diego.
He used this outfit
$40 a day for what I think was a 105 equipped Specialized delivered to his hotel. Was able to leave it with the concierge for the company to pick up later.
Don't think you'll do any better on price and service in this area.
