Los Angeles' Ciclavia Returns

There is another Ciclavia scheduled for Sunday April 10th 2011. I reproduced the formal Announcement in it's entirety here from their own blog @ https://ciclavia.wordpress.com/2010/12/01/announcing-sunday-april-10th-and-more/#more-2272

I am planning to be there and will repost this Announcement later closer to the date.

December 1, 2010
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! The next CicLAvia will be Sunday April 10th 2011! The 4-10-2011 route will be pretty much the same as the 10-10-10 route – 7.5 miles from East Hollywood to Koreatown to MacArthur Park to Downtown to Little Tokyo to Boyle Heights.
We’re also looking to set the date for two more CicLAvias later in 2011.
These will both be on the main 7.5-mile route, possibly with additional new spurs into South L.A., Boyle Heights, and/or Chinatown, depending on how quickly we can work with these communities to get the new route spurs ready.
The second 2011 CicLAvia event will be July/August 2011. Sundays then are:
July 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th or 31st or
August 7th, 14th, 21st, or 28th.
The third 2011 CicLAvia event will be September/October 2011. Sundays then are:
September 4th, 11th, 18th or 25th or
October 2nd, 9th, 16th or 23rd.
In our very preliminary discussions, we’re thinking maybe just maybe July 10th and October 9th – which could establish a second sunday regular rhythm… but before finalizing these late-2011 dates, we’re going to be working with our partners at the city of L.A., neighborhood councils, and you, our broader community – to understand if there are significant conflicts with other events and/or events that we might dovetail with. Please comment to let us know what July August, September or October dates would be best or would present problems or would work best for you! We hope to finalize all three dates by the end of this year – so let us know right away.
(Depending on funding and readiness… there’s some possibility of a fourth CicLAvia event in September/October – possibly in an area different than the central route – such as the Valley or the Westside or ??… but for now we’re just setting the dates for the three wonderful central ones. More on this early next year.)

Hi,

I was at the 10/10/10 CicLAvia and I thought it was an amazing event. I hope that all subsequent CicLAvias are as good. I will do my best to be at the April event.

Last time I volunteered as an Angel, helping fix flats and such. It was fun! I'm sure there're plenty of opportunities this time around, also.

I can't make 4-10; but would be interested in other ones.
How far/tracherous would it be from Union Station so I can take the train up from OC?

I rode from Union with a couple friends to the start point last time. If you get to Union, you're probably good to go, since you can connect to trains or bus it if you don't want to ride the whole way.

Union station gets you within a couple blocks of the Ciclavia route, and they're fairly typical city streets (not treacherous, but not the safest either--no bike lanes or sharrows). I'm perfectly comfortable riding the streets in that area, but there are big wide sidewalks too.

Nice to know it's close to Union Station - I can ride a few blocks of anything and know the basics around there, doable for me.

That's great! Need to look at the route to see if its a loop or out and back. I did see Lance's twitter feed that he was headed to Santa Barbara. That would be a cool sighting at Ciclavia!

Recent weather reports indicate that it will be both cool and sunny (40s during the early morning and upper 60s during the day) on the next Ciclavia. I just finished making a fleece pullover cycling jacket just for the event reflecting this development. This is far better than the 90+ temperature we endured during the last one in October.

Hope to see all of you there!

Last year there were zero incidents of any kind, but I would still bring a cheap cable lock and lock the bikes together...

I have a perfectly working bike that has been locked up in the garage of my apartment for 4 months and hasn't been ridden in like 6. I really enjoyed the last Ciclavia but those temps and the stupid (yes, I know small but still) hills kicked my butt. I actually got heat sick nearly. So...I may be skipping this Ciclavia because without having ridden in so long, and no friends able to join me...well...I'm lame

BUT! Have a great ride and I'm looking forward to Tweets and FB updates...too bad I don't have y'all on FB
