No nonsense GMR ride - Sunday, December 4, 2011
This was Mr. Beanz's idea, but since he is too much of a chicken to accept responsibility for organizing the ride, I decided to step up.
So here is the scoop:
What: Ride up GMR to Mt. Baldy village and back (approx. 45 miles with 4,000' of climbing)
When: Sunday, December 4, 2011 leaving at 9:00 AM sharp. Don't tell me the start time is too late! If you can't enjoy an extra hour of sleep on Sunday morning, you are too damn old to ride a bicycle!
Besides, a later start will be welcome by the SD yuppies like Calamarichris who has to drive 100+ miles to Glendora.
Start location: Glendora High School parking lot - plenty of parking and no neighbours to disturb. The parking is on the corner of Valley Center Ave. and Palopinto Ave. exactly opposite the St. Dorothy Church. The best address to map is the address of the church:
241 S Valley Center Ave
Glendora, CA 91741
We will ride together in the first 1.5 miles from the high school to the bottom of GMR at a leisurely, warm-up pace. Once on GMR, feel free to put the hammer down and kick some arse. We are planning to re-group at the shack (around mile 10).
Who is invited: On a second thought, I don't blame Mr. Beanz for not wanting to organize the ride. Common sense is a scarce resource nowadays. People bítch and moan about anything and everything.
That's why I decided to have strict selection criteria for the participants.
You are required to fill the application form below. I'll review it, and if you are approved, your login ID will appear at the bottom of this post.
I must warn you beforehand though, that if you answer "YES" to any of the five questions below, your application will be rejected.
Application Form
1) Do you need SAG?
A) No, my bike is roadworthy and I know how to fix a flat, perform minor repairs and I will carry spare tubes, tyres, CO2s, etc.
B) No, if I get a flat I'll walk back to my car (what's SAG by the way?).
C) Hell no! SAG is for sissies.
2) Do you think any person other than yourself should be responsible for your safety?
A) No, I've been over 18 for the past 30 years or so.
B) The only person responsible for my safety is the one that I see in the mirror.
C) Hell no! I'll be wearing a helmet which protects against any and all evils.
3) Will you ride in any weather conditions?
A) No, I'm not stupid.
B) Hell no! And I'm the one who decides if the weather conditions are suitable for riding in the mountain.
C) No, I'm a wuss like JimmyNH and I ride only in good weather conditions.
4) Do you mind if Mr. Beanz captures you in his video?
A) Hell no! Actually that's why I'm doing the ride.
B) No, Mr. Beanz makes the coolest videos with the coolest music background.
C) No, I'm too ugly to have my picture taken anyway.
5) Are you afraid of wild animals that you might encounter on GMR?
A) No, the noise from cars and motorcycles keeps the wild animals away from the road.
B) Hell no! I can outrun a mountain lion and wrestle a bear.
C) Hell no! I'll carry a .38 Smith & Wesson in my back pocket.
Approved participants:

Yes Jimmy,
I liked the questionaire too. Good to see you've put a lot of thought into this.
Is it okay if I forward this to Art to put on the Rebel website? I'm sure it's politically incorrect enough to get approval from Jess!

I will be there! About question #3, I recently attended a group ride of the STR nature from Angeles Oaks to Redlands last weekend, I am suprised at how many people showed up considering there was a fresh 6" of snow up there and it was sub 32 degrees at the start. I wouldnt doubt the same for this group but road tires in winter conditons (black ice etc) is a different story. I answer that as a TBA.

Question # 4 = C, but a vain type of ugly, so Beanz, shoot away!
Jimmy, thanks for organizing the ride. I'll be there! My goal will be to finish the entire ride while riding vertically!
Edit. I mean, I'll be there if my application is approved!

These are wise words, bro! I'll actually decide on Sunday morning.

Great post, Jimmy. If I were still out there, I'd be showing up with the NOS Columbus tubing cap I found last year in lieu of a plastic/foam crutch that is more a compensation for lack of handling skills than anything else.

Hey Crit, good to hear from you bro! If your location is correct, you must be back in Colorado. You must be fitter than ever with all the hills and good riding around there. Hope life is treating you well.

Been trying to talk BF'er "Eyemage " into going to the village with us. It's Sunday and it's his day off.
If you would like to meet Eyemage, raise your hand!

Thanks Jimmy, it's going very well over here. No traffic and miles & miles of hills/mountains right outside my front door. That and no traffic jams to go ride in the dirt = WIN for sure. Good to see you're still kickin' out there.

Sure, glad you'll be joining us. We've ridden together before and I think you are experienced enough to make it.
By the way, I see you've been reading my posts very carefully.
Bring a whistle, so you can bleep me on the toughest parts of the climb.

I've never ridden with the guy before but I've seen him in some of your videos. He's tough. Tell him not to screw up the answer of #3.

Wow, the dude that requested the ride sent an email addressed to a few of his buddies as well. I bet there will be at least 30 riders total. I sent one to FryDaddy (Greasers will hear about it I'm sure).
32 with Hillbasher and Eyemage!
