Sat GMR fun (2/25)

Wow what a nice day on GMR. Expecting 65 high but the average temp was 71. Gina got warm enough to skip on the under layer and eventually removed the jacket for the climb. Started from Boulder Springs with Gina, Aimee, Herb & Alyce, and Hillbasher. Alyce kills me, working 12 shifts but still requests GMR as a fun ride ha ha! We started off together but before the first turn, Aimee was gone! She made her way up to the shack, rested, turned around headed down to meet us then rode back up for extra credit.

Along the way we ran into GMR, Bill and Matt. That darn Bill, the dude looks trim. Lost 20 lbs and looking like a climber. Not to mention he looks 20 years younger. Hm, I wouldn't mind looking 20 younger myself. A short chat then off we went. After Newman's Point JasonA came flying up the mountain. Must have been on an easy recovery ride a is speed was more like 20 rather than 30 ha ha! The dude is an Everest Challenge stud so I didn't feel bad when he dropped me like a hot potato.

We reached the shack, had some laughs then headed down. Nice easy descent, no rider left behind. Nice and easy!

Hillbasher

Gina, warm enough to remove the jacket. Gave her a chance to model the top she bought last night. Strolling thru Waly world, saw these on the clearance rack for $3. Danskin brand, once was the thang for sporty chicks. Couldn't pass it up!

Had a great time as usual, Mr Beanz. Was a nice though crowed day on GMR. Eeryone getting ready for the big upcoming time trial. Nice weather brought out the crotch rockets, as happens most weekends.

The bikes on top at the shack.

Bill, GMR, and Matt, with Gina and Alyce coming up.

A nice recovery after GMR. 46 mile loop on Herb and Alyce's turf. Tustin, Santiago Rd, Irvine, Back Bay, PCH then back on SART. I'm never really sure where I am in that area but these are names I recognize ha ha! Aimee rode along with us as well and a short visit with Louie at the coast.

Along the way we met up with Chuck(Alyce's friend from work). He rode with us through Back Bay then some on PCH then headed back. I rarely eat Mickey D's so a couple of itty bitty budget burgers made the trip a little tasty! ;-)

I always enjoy your videos, Mr. Beanz, even if I don't comment on all of them. Thank you for the effort you put in making them.

Nice to see Herb riding with a strobe. Next time you see him, ask if he has noticed traffic being more "respectful" of him when riding. Does he use a rear strobe?

I thought I might have seen you.. I was right! You probably don't remember me, as I was one of those MANY racer-looking guys up on GMR yesterday. Still, nice to finally see someone from the forums!

I remember many of the rides I see. What were you wearing or riding?

You guys are inspiring me to get my old roadbike out and hit GMR instead of playing in the dirt all the time!

Heck, I've met quite a few mtb racers that use GMR as training.

I've seen Tinker Juarez on GMR multiple times, usually hammering on his mtb too. I've been going the opposite way of him every time, so I can still honestly say that I've never been dropped by anyone on knobbies.

I was wearing a Lagrange team kit and I was on a Lagrange cannondale supersix. Another easy identifier would be that I'm 16, 5'4", and 110 pounds. I think I saw you on my way down the lower half of GMR.

That man is fast. Put him on a road bike and there are few that would be able to keep him in sight, much less stay with him. Have seen him numerous times up there, but only for a minute at the most at a time. Incrediable rider.

Ah yeah, that would make it hard cause we saw a bunch of LaGrange kits!..I did see a couple of very young guys though. One passing us on the way up about 2 miles up (in my video).

Next time, stop for a video chat....if you get the chance (safety first )

Ah yes, if you skip to ~5:54, that's my closest riding buddy, Tommy! I live on the west side so it's hard to get out to GMR much but I'll send you a message if I'm out there again.

I'm not all that when it comes to knowing race stuff, but are you guys training for the SCVelo GMR TT?

There was a team car up there following a rider (while we were descending, different team). Last year, as it got closer, there were several teams with several cars.

Hey, it's no problem, I haven't even entered a single race yet! But yeah, the purpose of that ride was definitely to check out the course for the upcoming TT. Even though I won't be racing in it, I figure any climbing will help in my eventual goal of Everest Challenge this year.

Ah Cool! The dude I show in the video (JasonA) is a forum member. Doesn't post much anymore and always been a quiet poster. He kicked some serious butt on the Everest Challenge. One of the top finishers and he's always up on GMR.

Scroll down to the tan area, Bib #400. He was 18th overall in the GC.
