Rain
Heavy rain forecast for tomorrow. Santa Barbara will be hit early Saturday morning, Los Angeles will see 1 inch between 5 am and 5 pm, San Diego will hold out a little longer. 20 mph wind with gusts to 35 mph.
Just my luck: first time I register for an organized century, and it happens to coincide with a winter storm. Is this the second or the third real storm since last summer?
Now excuse me while I go to the nearest bike store and spend $200 on rain gear.

Best part will be the news anchors freaking out that there is rain on the freeways. I enjoy a bowl of popcorn and watch the news when it is wet outside.

I figure if I manage to climb Palomar South Grade with 20 mph headwind, the rest will be piece of cake.

I have a GMR/GRR ride scheduled but if the rain hits that early (5:00AM), it's not going to happen. If it's raining when I wake up I'm going to sleep in . . .

What you mean "WINTER STORM EVENT 2012!!"? It's gonna be epic man, they're predicting half an inch of rain. My friends from Texas have been calling to make sure I'm prepared and that I'll be ok.

last year at this time for the LA marathon, we had the craziest storm i have ever seen down there. i was working at the marathon handing out medals to the late finishers (3:30pm onward) and it was crazy. hundreds of people being taken away in ambulances, people walking across the finish line wrapped in aluminum foil blankets, etc.
so the last big storm was basically 1 year ago.

Great... was thinking about doing FTP testing again sometime as my HR has been dropping for same wattage output
I suppose that will happen tomorrow... on my indoor trainer...

If it clears up a little Saturday night, I plan on riding the L.A Marathon course at 4 AM> Don't ask me why. I don't know why yet either! Maybe an early mid life crisis..

Genaro, come on now, you know you've been sandbagging these past 6 months. You're really going out to win yourself a set of Wolfpack dogtags aren't you?

I feel for you. FTP tests suck, as does riding on the trainer, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I'll be on the trainer doing my 2x20's tomorrow. And to think people complain about riding on the SART being boring.

If you're trying to stay dry, you're up against a very difficult challenge. It's not impossible, just very impractical. Your goal should be to stay warm, so good gloves, a jacket, an extra base layer, and perhaps a cap is all you really need.
I started SDSR yesterday and stopped after 1 of 8 laps. I used to thrive in harsh conditions, but I'm starting to learn. There's too much nice racing in SoCal to have to suffer in the infrequent poor weather we get.

I can't imagine riding 5 miles in yesterday's weather much less a century. It was dry today but cold and windy as hell. I only saw one other rider out on the road.

I rode 30 miles (instead of 62) in the Tour De Sewer. First and last time I ride in the rain.

I rode the crashcoourse. It was wet, but no rain. First ride of that sort for me and I really enjoyed it. Probably won't do it again, but I can check it off my list of things to do. : )

Yes, it was like a really fast CiClavia. I'll continue to do those with the family. They're super fun. The reason I won't do a Wolfpack hustle ride again its not the most convenient. Maybe if they start some up out here in the IE>
