Strava SoCal challenges: GMR to the Wall and Village to the Lifts

For those that missed it or aren't on Strava yet, Strava has a couple challenges running until April 30th. There are leaderboards setup for the bottom of GMR to the wall, and for the Village to the lifts.

Its easy to join the challenges, and its all in good fun. Good excuse to get out there and try to set a new best.

Village to the lifts:

Are you doing l'Etape?
It's pretty killer. I'm bringing a triple this year for that final leg at the switchbacks. I walked for more than 5 minutes and only got passed by 2 or 3 riders, and I caught them back before the line.

I'm guy in last

It was my first time doing the Ski lift climb and it was part of a century I did a while back.

I need to get out there and do it again!

Chris, no l'Etape. Actually I'm gonna swap over to running here real soon and try the OC duathlon in May.

Chris/Fishy, I've only gone to the ski lifts once a long time ago, and it kicked my butt! I stopped probably 5 times (no walking), but made it eventually. I'd give it a go a lot more often, but I really wasn't a fan of the descent. Next time I hope to make it up without stopping.

Fishy, you should add your bikeforums handle into your profile on strava.

Where is "the wall?" I've never heard of it, and I've been riding GMR for years.

Its a short retaining wall many people rest at, about 800ft past the shack. It's the peak of GMR.

Oh. There's a few of those on the way up GMR, though.

That's where the KOM finish line was during the TOC.

Recently on GMR, I heard some riders refer to that little bump on Sierra Madre as "the wall." I wanted to be sure what we were talking about.
