Anybody ridden the Ventura River Bike Trail recently?

Hello everyone-

I was just wondering if anybody had ridden the Ventura River Bike Trail recently, and if so, what the trail condition is like nowadays.

This is the bike path from Ventura up to Ojai.

I was just wondering if the pavement was in reasonably good condition (road bike) and whether there was much glass or other hazards on the path.

Thanks in advance!

It was reported that they were doing construction on it a number of miles up from the ocean and there was a detour with reports of glass and flats. It's rather industrial. Perhaps you would enjoy the Ojai version better. Ride down to see if they have finished, etc.

Ventura River Bike Trail

I rode it last week from Ventura up to Foster Park and then a couple more miles to check out the new bridge. This is the section that used to dip down and was very rough with metal bars in the concrete. Its now a nice wide bridge - see link.

The trail was in great shape as least as far as I rode it. I had to turn back and head home to Westlake which was a 103 mile round trip on the recumbent.

Thanks for the update folks -- there is no substitute for recent local knowledge!

I may give it a try tomorrow.

I asked Wayne, who owns the 3 2 Go trike shop in V. His reply:

'The bridge over San Antonio Creek is finished, and the entire 15 miles of the RTC trail from Ventura to Ojai is open. Pix and a short story at http://www.vcrr.org/news.htm . __________________"

Go for it and post some pix on TrailLink.

Hi everyone-

Thank you for the updates -- I very much appreciate them.

I rode the trail from Ventura up to Libbey Park in Ojai; I'm happy to report that the trail is generally in very good shape. I didn't see any glass, trash or man-made hazards, and the pavement has some bumps but is generally in good shape. There are a few areas where dirt or rocks have obscured portions of the asphalt but nothing serious.

I really enjoyed it. The long, gentle climb up to Ojai was perfect for me (very low fitness level) and I had a blast.

I recommend it highly to anyone that is interested.

I'm embarrassed at how trashed I was when I got back to Downtown Ventura; this was the longest ride I've made in 15ish years so my legs were jelly and my butt was tired of the saddle. So it was just what the doctor ordered.

Thanks again for the info you all provided; I wouldn't have given it a try without it.
