North Gate area in San Diego

I'll be in San Diego this Sunday with my bike and was wondering if anyone knows a good route to go to from North Gate area. I'll be on University and thinking of heading west to the ocean and possibly make it to La Jolla?

I've never heard of an area in San Diego called North Gate. There is Main Gate and Back Gate (both in Oceanside), and Miramar MCAS has a north gate, but that area is not referred to as such.

North Park, maybe? Up by University Heights?
University goes through there.

There's also a Northgate Market on University and 54th.

I haven't cycled in North Park specifically, but I think the fastest way out of North Park and to the ocean is to take Texas Street -> Qualcomm Way -> Friars Road. Once on Friars, you have a bike lane and few intersections all the way to Mission Bay. From Mission Bay there's a number of routes in all directions.

Alternatively, you can take University or side streets to Fort Stockton and Presidio Park, it would be a more "urban" route with lots of shops, pedestrians and stop signs.

Texas St I think still has a bunch of construction and not a great option with no shoulder.

Bachman Pl in Hillcrest runs down into hotel Circle and you can get Friars from there

From there there are a few ways into La Jolla My route might be for the up and over Mt Soledad Route I would take Friars to east Mission Bay Dr all the way to the bike path behind the golf course to Lamont St to Soledad Rd to Soledad Mtn Rd up to the cross and then down into La Jolla Shores Dr take a left on Paseo Dorado to Spindrift to Princess to Torrey pines Rd avoid the secton of Torrey Pines Rd I do not like to ride. This will sound complicated but is second nature to me as I am simply moving south along the coastTo Prospect to Coast Blvd to Olveitas to Fern Glen to Neptune which becomes Camino De La Costa which becomes Chelsea Ave which dumps into La Jolla Blvd which becomes Mission Blvd to Loring to Ocean to Pacific beach dr to Rivera to Ingram across the bridge to Sea world drive to Friars
