So I am looking to meet a few people at some of the bars in Pasadena near Colorado and Fair Oaks around 7pm-midnight, and was just wonder how safe/viable it is to leave my bike there.

I know there's a bunch of posts and bike racks right outside the bars I could attach my bike to, and I guess the streets should be pretty busy with people walking around at night, but I'm still a bit weary of that. Are there any other options? Would parking at the nearby mall's underground structure which has cameras be any safer? Please give me your input!

I am also tempted to just ask the bar owners if I could leave my bike in back as well, but I think I already know the answer

Old Town Pasadena is very upscale but you know, stuff happens. Don't leave any expensive lights, etc. on the bike and lock it up well. You could even bring your saddle into the bar with you if you are worried it might get stolen....

I suggest that you don't leave your bike there, one of my friends got his bike stolen in old town a couple months ago, it was U locked to a bike stand, but the thief just cut the lock with a portable angle grinder.

I'd bet your bike is more likely to get stolen from the back of a bar than from a pole outside.

by "back" I meant inside (i.e. "back behind the counter" kind of a thing). And hmmm, I guess I might end up bussing it, then. That's what thing I realized I hate about biking - I feel I have a freedom to go anywhere, but I cant really do anything once I get there because I am afraid someone will jack / mess up my bike if I leave it for a while. LA and all :/

just so you know, I believe you can be arrested for BWI just as quickly as DWI so if your drinking be extra careful. EVRYTIME you leave a bike unattended, locked or not you are rolling the dice, the best you can hope for is that someone elses bike is easier to take than yours, pretty crappy I know.

yeah, i will not go inside a place unless i can take my bike with me.

otherwise, time to just use my gixxer750 or my rx8. they have to get used some time.

Of course, I would not be planning biking 20mins home in a state of drunkenness, especially not at night on a road which I already was hit by a truck once. And I know I can count on myself to make the right decision; a few years back when I got crazy drunk with a few friends at a Japanese karaoke and woke up with no recollection of the past night. I promptly realized I had left my bike at the bike rack in front of the place - despite utter drunkenness I was smart enough NOT to bike back in my state

Really? I hardly doubt someone would just go behind the counter (which they are not allowed) and snatch what would look like a bartender's own bicycle. Or try to hack through a U lock in the middle of a crowded bar I did actually do that at some coffee shops where the bartenders were nice enough to allow me to stash my bike inside. But I guess a bar is a way different environment, and Im just day dreaming (I biked by the place last night and it looked way too jampacked, no space to leave a bike inside without obstructing others).

Dang it :/ I guess I will be taking the bus after all...

There is a bike storage room at the Del Mar Gold Line stop that always has a bunch of bikes locked in it. There are several restaurants there, but I don't know if there is security watching the room.

I would also be worried about some drunk falling or tripping and damaging my bike.
