LA Cyclists: Call To Action

On Thursday August 23rd, anyone who commutes by bicycle in or through Beverly Hills is encouraged to ride out and join us for public comment period during the next scheduled Beverly Hills City Council meeting. We will be having a public comment workshop about an hour before the doors open. The Council is actually pretty personable and allows some limited back and forth discussion at times. We will be asking specifically for justice for Paul Livingston and for Beverly Hills to protect cyclists more vigorously as a policy.

Join us and get your voice in:

Beverly Hills City Council Meeting
7pm August 23rd in Room 400
Beverly Hills City Council
455 N. Rexford Drive

Good luck getting some positive changes. We had a similar problem with the CHP in Davis back in the '70s. One year, we had a drunk driver kill a young woman (yes, hit and run). She had been riding the Davis Double Century with her parents and fiance; she was feeling a bit tired so they rode ahead and were waiting for her at the finish that she never got to. The CHP botched the evidence collection and seemed determined to sabotage their own case. (There was no love lost between the CHP and the cycling community, particularly when an officer hit a cyclist at during the mass start a few years later.) The drunk driver never did face any charges and he was seen out driving the route the following year. For many years after that, his car was always mysteriously damaged just before the Davis Double Century.

I'm wondering why this thread was moved when it has to do with advocacy. There are other LA area threads that stay in the A & S forum.

I think it was moved in an attempt to get more local coverage and awareness, in hopes that it would help create a bigger turnout.
