When you get into the village there is a fire station on your left hand side a little bit up the road, and there's a water fountain there.

https://maps.google.com/?ll=34.23650...06539&t=h&z=18

Be a little cautious on that last descent - it's steep and there's a stop sign at the bottom. You turn left at the stop sign and about 100 yards up is that water fountain. You can also stop at the little convenience store a little further up on the right if you want a soda or something.

There is basically no water between the base of GMR and the village. I usually bring a camelbak if it's going to be hot although you can certainly make it on two bottles. (usually, listen to me... I've done the village once. LMAO but I do like being prepared and running out of water is the worst)

Trojan man, Thanks! I'll be on the SGRT passing through your part of town tomorrow about 5:30-6 pm, please leave me a beer in the tunnel underneath Whittier Blvd. I am particularly fond of IPAs.

Dude, if I left an IPA under that tunnel the homeless dudes would be all over that. Plus, you'd have to hope I didn't get thirsty on the way to drop it off, so there's that. And there always seems to be at least one kid sitting there smoking weed just south of that tunnel. It's a fine area.

Say, speaking of SGRT - is it blocked off yet by the 5? I took a little detour to the LART on Sunday to avoid any chance of blockage.

I'm an SGRT virgin and I'm planning a ride from my house in Fontana, to the SART, PCH, and back up SGRT About 125 miles. I hope I can find some beer along the way, because after about 70 miles, I can't stomach anything sweet..

Aight, I'll leave a six pack under the bridge, keep a sharp eye out for it.

Sounds like a nice gentle ride... watch out for attack squirrels on SGRT - they're suicidal.

Make sure you time your ride so you benefit from the generally no wind conditions in the morning and the heavy sea breeze in the afternoon.

Is Jordan part of your crew? He mentioned riding up with some virginites on Saturday. I'd laugh if he was your brother!

These are the places in the village where water is available. Post office has a ftn outside, the lodge and across form the lodge a small ftn next to a small shed/garge looking structure.

Restrooms at the lodge as well as the park/visitor center just above teh lodge on teh left hand side. Pretty nice facility there.

Last I saw the tunnel at 183Rd is blocked as they are redoing it. When I did a ride with my club that came down the SGRT from Rosecrans on 7/14 it was blocked already, we had to go down to the river bed section to ride to get past the construction going on at that tunnel. On Mon 7/23 I rode up to the blockage from my house and then turned to go south to Seal Beach. They have not yet begun work south of that area YET that I have seen...as I ride to work using the SGRT from Del Amo to Carson and that area is still TERRIBLE. If you go down into the riverbed to ride, the first chance on the east side of the water to get back up to the trail is at the bridge where SGRT and CCRT come together.

Mr. Beanz, I do not know him, but he does look familiar (don't all of us guys?!). I'll look for him this Saturday. Thanks very much for the info!

....UGH! That last 3 miles to the ski lifts was brutal, my life past before my eyes around the third(?) switch back. The ride renewed my respect for pro riders and/or anyone else who does this.

But you finished it? Pic of bike in front of the lifts or it didn't happen.

Yeah, I'm skeered of the lifts, haven't even thought about it yet.

TrojanHorse, You were right there in Mt.Baldy Village when I tried to get you to join us on the ride to the Ski Lifts! You had such a great opportunity . . . but no, you decided to pass on it.

Brian, Stefan, Linda, Chris and I all made it; you could too! Someday you will!

Yeah, I'm well aware of my chicken-ness. I'm uh, waiting for the weather to cool down. Yeah, that's it. Oh yeah, I forgot, I was having problems with my front chainrings (since repaired). Of course, now I have a 36 up there instead of a 34, so hmmm... I promise you I'll do it this year even if i have to stop at each switch back to ponder the sky.

I'll do it with you...as long as you promise to wait for me at each switchback!

I've ridden up to the Baldy Lifts. Think that's been my most difficult experience yet and I've done quite a few mountain rides. I may/will have to try it again when it's cooler. Perhaps I can do it without stopping. I stopped twice... Once near to the top of the switch backs and again on the straight run to the top (the sign).
