Los Angeles area shop for a good fitting?
This summer I'm looking to build a track bike. I have a couple of frames + forks I'm deciding on, but will be going directly through a builder or the manufacturer, not a bike shop, as it's an option and I can save tons of money on (50% or more on $1000+ frames). However, I would like to get a professional fitting so I can have the correct numbers to give the builder/manufacturer. Anyone have a recommended bike shop that will just do a professional job helping me find my perfect numbers? I don't want to go into a place giving them the false pretense that I will be buying a bike from them and get all this fitting done and just getting the frame myself it myself.
So, any recommended shops in the L.A. area that can do a great fitting job? Of course I don't mind paying and wouldn't expect to get it done for free. Cheers! |
I've never had a fitting done, however, I've heard this guys name a lot. Not vouching for him, though!

Nate Loyal or Dave at Santa Monica cyclery in Woodland Hills. He is the owner too.Its a bit of a drive but he is worth it.Be careful of one thing, fitters try to sell you stuff you really don't need. Not all, but some. |

I'll vouch for him. He's the best.

If he can teach me to look like a cyclist while riding I might go to him next week. I assume he throws in "looks like a cyclist while standing around" as part of the package? :D

I did my last fitting with Jim at ero sports http://ero-sports.com/ He did a great job of getting me dialed in to my new bike.
He works out of the velodrome at the Home Depot center right next to Cal State Dominguez Hills. It is not a bike shop so he has no incentive to sell you stuff you don't need. He currently doesn't sell anything other than maybe shims and wedges. He does retul fitting, and has a dynamic fit bike. He should be able to generate your numbers on the fit bike. At the end you get a fit report which should have the numbers you need to give the manufacturer. You can look at peoples fit reports on ero website to see what kind of info you get. I've also heard good things about Nate Loyal, but i've never been fitted by him. |
$200 - Loyal $?? - SMMC How much is Retul from SMMC? |

I got mine with Nate Loyal and never had issues since then. I would definitely check him out.

Steven Carre at Bike Effect in Santa Monica
Does a very thorough fitting. He's very knowledgeable in physiology. I've worn orthotics prescribed by a podiatrist for years, for a painful foot condition. Steve saw that these were wrong for me and gave me some that work much better than my prescription ones.
His sessions are 4 hours at $100 per hour. Pricey but worth it if for someone who wants to max out the return on their effort. The prescription orthotics cost $400, so getting non-prescription ones from Steven that work better pays for the fitting session. |
I just got a road bike with relaxed geometry, and would like to get fitted. I'm not looking for a pricey pro-fit, the bike is for commuting. Any recommendations? Anyone have experience with Helen's Cycles, or Performance Bicycle?
Also, if I'd like to get cleats fitted on a later, separate date, would I have to pay extra? |

A while back, several people recommended a mechanic from Eagle Rock for being very good and reasonably priced. Does anyone the mechanic and shop ?
|
Genaro, I'm guessing you're thinking of Budget Pro Bicycles, the only relevant result in Eagle Rock.
