but I'll tell you anyway!
Saturday - riding to the shack. From my house in Whittier. Meeting a bunch of people at 8 am for this noble affair so I'm departing my house at 5:30 or so. Should be about 76 miles and 4,300 feet.
Sunday will be a family ride around the neighborhood, still trying to get my kid to shift right.

Hey I am riding to the shack too, I was supposed to ride with some people but I dont think it is going to happen. We were going to meet at the base at 9 (yeah that is a little late). Leaving from Fontana going up and over to the village and maybe some extra and back home. (FYI I will have my KOM jersey on)

He must be celebrating a little early and spaced on the date.

Doing the Mount Laguna Bicycle Classic tomorrow with my Sweetheart and Idoru2000. Just going to ride the 70-miler this year. But if Lauretta doesn't mind waiting for me, I might ride my new mountainbike-cassetted Peloton up that murderous third climb. (It's seriously, stupid-steep; makes Baldy's switchbacks seem like a false flat.)

GMR->Lifts for me Sunday. First time at GMR in probably 6 months. I'm excited! On monday I almost last-second-registered for the Mt Laguna thing, but I wussed out. Maybe next year. Good luck Chris/Darren.

BTW, nice thread TH!

I didn't want to put down the Alpine thing, and I was seriously considering it, but when I saw Alpine Brewery's proud claim on their website about their spectacular IPA's...
IPA's are the perfect moneymaking trend for people who are too lazy to clean up their beer brewing equipment. I hate that crud. But we'll stop off in Alpine on our way back from Mount Laguna tomorrow and give them a try. If they don't suck too bad, maybe I'll be at the Alpine Challenge.
(Haha--maybe the real challenge is drinking their bitter, overhopped beer.

And it is a clever thread title, I agree!
Safe ride tomorrow Jmx. I hope the lovely weather doesn't result in a swarm of crotch rocketeers; and if it does, hopefully the CHP will be there to help our beautiful state's coffers and cool some of those young-guns' afterburners.

Well, heck. If everyone else is going to ride GMR tomorrow, I might as well fold to peer pressure and ride with 'ya.

Well, for those of you going up GMR I tricked some new clydes into trying it so we'll probably have between 10 and 20 people moseying up the hill in clumps. Wave and say hi on your way by. I also convinced a friend of mine to start with me in whittier and he wants to do the village, which would make the ride a nice round century. We'll have to play that one by ear.

Haha! I love bicycling and drinking far too much to ever overdo either, and risk the horror of rehab.

Some people next to us, who were equally frustrated, said they were going to head over to a barbeque place down the street that served Alpine Brewery beer on tap.

Doing MLBC tomorrow if I wake up at 4 am (which would be 5 hours 35 minutes from now) and manage not to crash on the way there.

Didn't see any of you (except for PhotoJoe) and I think I bit off more than I could chew...I didn't bonk but my legs quit on me after about 72 miles. My riding partner today is a verifiable Hard Man, so that probably didn't help either. ha ha.

Good to see everyone out on the rode, what a beautiful day. It was nice to meet all of you and see such a great motivated group! I did see Money on the way down and Photo Joe at the shack I probably passed TrojanHorse but didn't know. I would have loved to go to Icehouse Canyon but I was short on time. It was also really nice to get back into the mountains after spending so much time on the flats. I hadn't been up there since the snow was on the roads.

So many faces to the names here. Good seeing you all, Photojoe actually met, think Jeepseahawk, TrojanHorse were still at the shack when we got there, saw Loren, beanz, on the way down, and all the ladies of Unlikely Cyclists sporting their new duds. Also saw, I think his forum name is HuffinandPuffin on the way down.

I made it through all three loops of MLBC. Not even a totally terrible time, I think (2 loops: 6:15, 3 loops: 9:05). 30 F + wind chill out of the gate was a bit unexpected. (Weather forecast said 46!!!) Got passed by half of the pack on the first downhill because I was riding the brakes, shivering, losing feeling in the fingers and generally turning into an icicle. But things turned up after that. It was over 55 at the first checkpoint and nice and warm the rest of the way.
I think Pine Creek would be pretty fun with fresh legs, but, after 6 hours of heavy climbing, my resilience was running thin. I walked half of the steep part and I couldn't even eat anything at the rest stop.
Next time I'm riding a century, I'm bringing all warm stuff I have, regardless of what the forecast is saying.

I look at lesper's time line and it looks like you got to the shack right after I bolted down little GMR! Pity, I was looking forward to meeting some more folks.
Did jmx go blasting by anybody?
Congrats hamster!

Was practically a perfect day up on GMR today. A whole buncha bikeforums people out there today, and everyone was in such a friendly mood. Glad I got to meet PhotoJoe and HuffinandPuffin, and a Beanz sighting is like the cherry on top!
I didn't see jmx, and although my bro saw Loren, I didn't notice while on the way down GMR. I'm excited for this biking season -- I think my bro and I are in much better shape this early in the season than we were last year. I just hope we find the time to get away from our hectic lives to be able to get some extended rides in this year, haha.

I stopped posting to this thread because changing plans always made a liar out of me, so I'll drop in Sunday AM and say where I actually did ride (again, not what was originally planned) https://app.strava.com/activities/49824761

Didn't ride anywhere exciting but I did notice four separate piles of horse**** or cow**** on the I5 shoulder between Las Pulgas and Harbor Dr. I guess they don't allow cattle herds through the base.

I rode it today rather than Saturday. It seems I'm definitely down some power from last year, but I'm not gonna let it bother me (yet). A buddy took a pic of me during a descent on GRR today...couldn't have asked for better weather. Low 80's and not a cloud in the sky.

Saw a fair amount of folks out there today, including a couple on triathlon bikes at the ski lifts. Hardcore.

Now, to find 3000 calories worth of ice cream...

You probably still passed me.
It got dang hot yesterday. My lyin Garmin said it was in the 90s yesterday after noon and I was definitely hurting later on. I had plenty to drink, I'm just not used to wearing myself out in 90 degree weather yet.
