Anybody want to ride from SF to Southern California leaving around august 12th?
Ive planned a ride from sf to southern california/san diego with a friend last month depaturing sf most likely monday august 12th. the way things turned out for my friend he may not be able to get enough time off from work to ride so there is a good possbility ill be riding solo, which i would rather not do. so if anybody here is interested in riding with me/us please let me know. i can be flexible with depature date and route. ill be leaving from san francisco regardless because ill be coming from outsidelands music festival. so if, for example, you live in santa cruz and would rather leave from there to go south then i can ride solo to meet you in santa cruz so we can ride the rest of the way.
heres my plan. i want to ride down coast hwy 1 from sf to santa barbara then stick to the coast to santa monic then ill countine heading to san diego, i still need to figure out the best route to take around la. ill be packing up my surly long haul trucker with all the gear i would need to camp lightly along the way, i may stay at a motel a night if it works out better that way but for sure camp along the coast. im planning on 60 - 80 mile days, maybe more if it turns out to be easy but this is the first time i will have done a long ride. ill be trained for this ride as i have been getting good day rides in around san diego, where im from.
im pretty excited and hoping i wont be riding solo as that might deter me from riding at all. safty in numbers. lets do this!

I have a couple friends who are doing Vancouver BC to the Mexican border, departing on 8/2 from Vancouver. They are allowing two weeks for the trip, so they should be in SF around 8/11 or 8/12. They are strong riders, averaging 120+ miles/day. I'm happy to ask them if you care to join them, but I'll need your email.

wow, yeah thats pretty strong. i might be able to compromise at like 90, maybe 100 but i dont want to slow them down. definitely would want to ask them a few questions like if they plan to carry all their gear with them? thank you very much for letting me know about them. yeah, if you dont mind can you get me in contact with them? my email is youngryan407@gmsil.com. maybe this will work out.

Monday Aug 12th San Francisco to Santa Cruz via hwy 1 (80 miles)
Tuesday Aug 13th Santa Cruz to Big Sur (80 miles)
Wednesday Aug 14th Big Sur to San Simeon (70 miles)
Thursday Aug 15th San Simeon to Santa Maria (70 miles)
Friday Aug 16th Santa Maria to Santa Barbara (70 miles)
Saturday Aug 17th Santa Barabara to Malibu (80 miles)
Sunday Aug 18th Malibu to So Cal
of course the destinations are all tentative, ill have all the campsite figured out or if need be we can just camp off the highway, people do it all the time. *fortunately for us bike riders all campgrounds must take us in if they have room or not. *i still need to figure out the deatils of getting between morro bay and santa barbara and how to get through los angeles, its a work in progress
