I doubt much of this training will help riders until all drivers give a crap.

In other related news, the Spy Belgian Waffle Ride will have a kUDOs award given to a happy rider like Udo.

It was written by the rider's attorney, from what I could gather.

One good thing I can see coming out of this is that NCTD has now officially agreed to some sort of safety training process in order to prevent future accidents. If there is another similar crash, they can be nailed for punitive damages for not following up on the training or making sure their drivers adhere to it.

You are right, it was probably written by the rider's attorney. I am sure, however, that the bus company reviewed it and maybe even edited it.

Safety training is always a good thing. Many accidents can be avoided with better training--let's hope that is the case here.

BTW, I am so happy that you have returned to your "old" avatar picture. That picture of the Bieb was making me seriously sick.

I read it that way too. On first reading it, it struck me as being in language that was probably agreed to by all attorneys over a conference table. I was once involved as a witness in a sexual harassment case. I can see in that statement signs of the kind of negotiation that goes on to reach a settlement. Cases like this, if they actually go to trial, can take years, and the legal fees involved often leave the plaintiff worse off than settling.

On the other hand, if the case is groundless, the defendants will often fight in order to discourage frivolous law suits. That NCTD settled relatively quickly is clear indication that it was not a frivolous suit. (Something we all pretty well knew, but this codifies it leagaly).
