It is important that we cyclists are heard to demand that they take us into account in any plans for changes to that roadway. We also need to request that they remove the dangerous speed “cushions” near the bottom of the hill. One cyclist has already been seriously injured. I want the city to remove them before another tragic accident occurs.

If you can attend the meeting and wish to speak please arrive a few minutes early and fill out a speakers slip. You will want to check the box to speak about an item on the agenda which is “Traffic Calming on Via del Monte”. At the appropriate time your name will be called and you will have 3 minutes to speak. Those 3 minutes go by very quickly so think carefully about what you want to say. Also be polite.

Why did they put a divided speed hump at the bottom of a hill?

Actually, why would you put any type of traffic calming device other than a stop sign (assuming it is an intersection) at the bottom of a hill?

My apartment complex has speed hump, they are poorly installed/designed as they are like speed bumps on roids as they feel about 5 inches tall and don't have as wide a base to make it a hump.

Two years later, the speed bump has been removed and replaced with a stop sign near the bottom of the hill. Also, they removed the horrible raised dots that used to line both sides of the street. This has allowed cars and cyclists to co-exist much more favorably. I.E., a cyclist can now easily move to the right to allow a car to pass, and/or cars can move to the right when meeting an oncoming bike and auto . . . without eliciting a jarring cacophony of noise. This is much better. Someone listened and I, for one, appreciate it.
