Wolfpack Hustle Marathon Crash RIDE (not race) IS ON!!!!

UPDATE 12PM MAR 8TH

DEAR RIDAZZ, ATHLETES, FRIENDS
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED.
YOUR COOPERATION IS NEEDED.

THE MARATHON CRASH RACE IS CANCELLED FOR THIS YEAR.

The situation is this. 5 days ago The City of Los Angeles served us
with a violation notice regarding the Marathon Crash Race, threatening criminal liability and imprisonment should the event move forward without a permit. Such a notice has never been issued in the 4 years prior. There was no choice but to immediately cancel the event.

The cancellation of the Marathon Crash Race is a huge loss, as one of the 3 points races in the Unified Title Series, and for the thousands of people who simply show up to ride some of the most famous streets in the world.

Today, thanks to Herbalife International I am proud to announce that the Unified Title Series has been saved. With their commitment and the commitment of the Mayor's Office and the City of Los Angeles, we are able continue with a complete series (Announcement soon). Furthermore, we look forward to working with the Mayor's office and the City of Los Angeles to bring back the Marathon Crash Race for 2015 as a legitimate permitted event.

TOMORROW MORNING:
Gather 3AM Roll 4AM (REMEMBER DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME!)
TANGS DONUT SUNSET / FOUNTAIN

Realizing that people will come to "crash" the course, as they have done long before Wolfpack Hustle organized this event, the City, the LAPD and the Mayor's office worked extremely hard to make a permit available as of Friday night at approximately 8pm. Because it is logistically impossible to provide a safe arena for a race, this permit is made available for a FUN RIDE ONLY. This is where your cooperation is needed.

THIS NOT A RACE.
THERE IS NO FINISH LINE.
NO WINNERS.
NO LOSERS.
NO AWARDS.
THE LAPD IS PROVIDING A CONTROLLED FUN RIDE ONLY.

LETS FINISH THIS RIDE TOGETHER AS ONE COMMUNITY.

I want to introduce you to Damian Kevitt, a fellow hit and run survivor who some may know as the man who's leg was torn off as he was being dragged by a car driver onto the 5 freeway. We may never find the coward who did this, but we can all celebrate the courage shown by Damian who, after multiple surgeries and with a prostetic leg in place, has come back to ride again and will help lead the Marathon Crash ride.

THE LAPD will be out there to run a rolling closure.
We MUST stay within this closure.
LACBC IS GRACIOUSLY PROVIDING ROUTE MARSHALS

PLEASE SHOW the city that cyclists can be a unified group. Lets make this ride safe and fun and let's send a message to the City of Los Angeles that we mean business and we want to ride LOS ANGELES

CAN YOU DIG IT?

-Roadblock

So you're bringing donuts to the finish line?

I'm beat but I think I'll do it anyway. It's not a race, anyway, just a ride.

I just got back from Krispy Kreme funny enough. I didn't get enough donuts for the crew though. Damn place is two blocks away from home which is way too convenient...

This may be a stupid question but here goes.

The marathon course looks like it's one way. Tang Donut is mile 8.5 and San Vicente / Bundy is mile 22.5. So, is this 28 miles round trip, along the same route?

No, it's one way. They cut out quite a bit of distance at the front this year for some reason (the loop by dodger stadium) but once you get to Santa Monica, you're on your own. PhotoJoe and I rode back to Culver City metro and took the train back to Sunset.

I work right by the finish. CHAOS! I wish I had gone but I did my own riding on Saturday and needed some sleeps.

I normally take Ocean Ave at the beginning and end of my rides. Took quite a detour to get nowhere near the marathon today. The 80 degree weather at the coast certainly didn't help the traffic situation. I fell over in Venice in front of a bunch of people. It was really crowded with people/cars and I waited until the last second to clip out. I clipped out my right foot and the bike leaned left. Luckily no damage to the bike, my ego is another story

I have to tell you - I used to live in Playa del Rey till about 2002 and I *hated* the crowds on nights and weekends. So close to so many awesome things to do and yet so far. And good luck finding parking anyway.

Btw, Lincoln ave at 6 am today was very peaceful. Very different from what I remember.
