The jerk

So I was minding my own business riding north on the SART after a pleasant ride to the beach. Way up the trail I could see a rider with his bike blocking the entire north bound lane. THE JERK was perpendicular to the trail with his front wheel on the shoulder and his rear wheel all the way out to the center line. I watched as cyclists swerved to go around him. Of course there were also riders riding south in large groups and there was a bit of jockying by the north and south riders. THE JERK would just look at the oncoming riders as thought to say, " I am not going to move. Screw you". Not being a shrinking violet as I passed him I said, "you are blocking the trail". THE JERK was deep in conversation with another cyclist (who was on the shoulder not blocking the trail) and telling the rider of his great racing exploits. (I heard that as I slowed to let a south bound rider pass). In response to my protest about blocking the lane, THE JERK said, "looooser!". I thought it was humorous and somewhat pathetic. THE JERK was thin and tall and wearing white. Evidently quite full of himself. I thought to myself, this guy is really a jerk (hence the title of my post).

I find just about everyone I encounter on the SART to be careful and considerate. I see mistakes of course but this is the first time I have actually encountered THE JERK.

There are only about four blind corners and an equal number of tee intersections on the SGRT from LB to Azusa, but that's always where you will find "THE JERK"

Don't be "THE JERK"

Next time take a pic and shame him on the internet

bruin11 07-29-14 04:59 AM

What's a looser

krobinson103 07-29-14 05:13 AM

We had a 'jerk' park his bike just around a blind corner blocking both lanes and bust my friends collar bone a month back. Some people are really stupid.

RISKDR1 07-29-14 05:45 AM

the double O is to emphasize his drawn out pronunciation of loser. I really should have written it as "looooser" which is kind of like how he said it.

or, it could just be that I am a 70 year old college graduate who still can't spell.

trailangel 07-29-14 06:22 AM

You should have stuck out your foot and kicked the back wheel and then said "whoops, I'm sorry"

Or,
Should have stopped right at the bike, and asked them to move so you don't have to cross over into oncoming traffic.

and,
What's the deal with all this white? I see a lot of white shoes.... WTF is up with that?

psalm 07-29-14 08:46 AM

Was his bike nicer then yours? Because if it was, well then how else do you expect him to show it off?

Disclaimer: I know it's the internet, so in case you can't tell, I was being sarcastic.

snidely 07-29-14 09:32 AM

We're going to yell at you.

One reason why I generally avoid any of the river trails... it is not a place to ride if one expects to be able to race... not faulting you riskdr1 but jerks abound on river trail as do joggers, casual walkers, newbies on wheels etc. People are rude and inconsiderate.... all I can say is not be like those people...

This thread is not about what I thought it was going to be about.

psalm.

My bike is a mid 80's Medici fully restored in fire engine red with correct yellow decals with all campy mostly period correct and nos. Some used pieces and the brakes are dual pivot. It is REALLY purdy and being lugged steel Tange Prestige it rides great. His bike nicer than mine. NOT. He can't spend enough.

I knew you were being sarcastic. No problem.

evivbulgroz 08-01-14 01:52 AM

What is the SART? Sorry. Newbie here...

RISKDR1 08-01-14 06:48 AM

I use the SART, am tall and thin(I think), and wear a white kit....that was not me though....no racing exploits here. Like you, I am on a steel bike (my commuter) and have noticed a general lack of manners amongst cyclists, particularly what seem to be the carbon riding newbies....no respect for the sport or fellow cyclists.

Think I've seen you before. I was riding my bright green Specialized FSR & saw a guy on a very nice vintage road bike.

And don't block the trail. You are betting on riders on laden cruisers seeing you in time. In a crash, bet on the cruiser.

Krej
A method of referring to someone (or something) that frequently exhibits characteristics commonly seen as extremely "krejjy" or "jerky," also generally referred to as something a jerk would do, perform, say, etc.

Note: Krej came into being as a backwards spelling of the word jerk.
"That doesn't look right."
"Stop being such a krej!"

RISKDR1 08-04-14 09:03 AM

I will stick with jerk. I have been using that word since shortly after 1945. Old people don't like change.

Only a true krej would not use the word jerk.
