Visitor to Las Vegas looking for good road biking trips

I'm someone who loves road biking, but doesn't typically have a lot of time to do it, so I squeeze in evening rides of about 50 km in about 2 hours after work at least once, sometime twice a week, in the relatively flat part of the country where I live.

I'm visiting Las Vegas for a trade show in a week, and booked myself 3 days off to relax afterwards. I'd like to rent a road bike and spend at least Saturday & Sunday touring around afterwards, perferably on bike friendly roads that aren't too heavily travelled with either a wide shoulder or a separate bike lane.

Is there anything like that anyone could recommend within an hour or two of Las Vegas?

And are there any reasonably priced cycling friendly accomodations that you could recommend in the area? I'm spending the week on the Strip and really would like to get away to somewhere more peaceful for the weekend.

The only suggestions for routes that I could find online was Red Rock Canyon - with a road bike rental from McGhies. Is there anything better than that or is that the ultimate in recreational road biking in the Las Vegas area?

Thanks for any help or suggestions anyone can provide.

These are some good shops and can set you up. They also know The MUPs and roads you will want to find. Google Red Rocks Canyon and Lake Mead Recreation area. Its a side of Las Vegas many don't see.

My personal choice would be to stay in Boulder City if you are looking for quiet. BC is the only city in NV that has outlawed gambling. Has good dining options, historic hotels (fronm the Hoover Dam construction era) and tons of good riding. There is a nice ride from BC to Hoover Dam via an old railroad grade. You travel through 6 tunnels cut through solid mountains. You can also ride to the Henderson Wet Lands Park on the River Mountain Loop, Lake Mead, Lake Las Vegas.

On the other hand, Red Rocks Canyon is uniquely beautiful. It has well marked trails and will give you many WOW moments.

Thanks so much for your advice - I really appreciate the suggestions. The very first time I spent in Vegas was spent in a motel in Boulder City, so I remember the area well. The bike shop in BC you passed me the link to looks great, I'm looking forward to stopping by when I'm in town and spending a day exploring the trails.

There is a good Starbucks in BC. Let me know if you want to say HI.
