Group ride in Phoenix annoyance

I just did the 36 mile Metro Phoenix Bike Club Saturday ride that leaves from Kiwanis park. Nice enough group and thanks to them for putting on a large ride like this every week with a map fro those that don't know the route they take. This is not my normal group but as it was between the distance of myself and my kids living arrangements we thought we would try it. Now my rant...

In our group was a dude who was loud and obnoxious as all he&&. He was barking orders to get a pace line organized when we were doing fine as a loose group on our own. "Hold that wheel" Flip your elbow" "make sure your clear" "HOLD THAT WHEEL"... and so on. He was very loud and not at all nice about it. Our group had about 30 or so riders and only 5 were rotating up front because no one wanted to hear his crap. Our group was not incapable, or dangerous at all. Everyone seemed group ride capable. To that dude... chill out already! It's not a training ride, it's not a race club, it's only an informal 36 mile loop. Light talk and enjoying the ride is the order of the day. Enjoy your group and I'll stick to the one's in north Phoenix or be dang sure not to be in your group.

rant over peace out

Azshtr.
I hear what you're saying, I was one of the ones that was rotating (on Riggs Road), however I found it instructional, and was happy to be learning something new. I tend to ignore the tone, and focus on the message instead (a lesson I learned from a drill sergeant).

I would encourage you to try the Kiwanis ride again. I have ridden with this group for about 8 months now, and they have a great group of people.

Thanks.

For me it wasn't the message I objected to... it was the delivery. That guy comes across as a drill sergeant. There is more than one way to deliver a message. His had a nasty tone to it.

So sprint ahead of him . . . you've got map!

azshtr, I am with you. If the ride was billed as a fast no non sence butt kicker advanced rider ride then I could understand that he felt he had to give lessons on how to make your riding style more effient for yourself and the group but maybe his delivery method should be different. But, If the ride was billed as a friendly come one come all and enjoy the day ride with us then he definitly should not be doing the drill sargent thing. Just my two cents.

I eventually did just that. At the time this was going on we were stuck behind two large / wide farm tractors and had no way around. When the tractors turned some of us took off the front.
