Question: drum brake cable choice

Hi,

I'm looking to install an Arai drum brake. Elsewhere on this forum, I've found that there are many options as how to operate the brake. The preferable choice seems to be through some sort of shifter (bar-end, rapidfire or gripshift), but it left me wondering. Do I then run a shifter cable to the drum brake? I don't suppose a brake cable can be used with a shifter.

Thanks

Yes, if you are using bar-ends or a thumb shifter for the drum brake use a shifter cable. A brake cable would have the wrong end on it.

You can use a brake cable with a bar end shifter if you 1) enlarge the hole in the bar end shifter or 2) file down the end piece of the cable or 3) just let the little end of the cable stick out.

For reasonable and infrequent use though, a shifter cable will probably do you. It's not the primary brake.

Thank you. Decided i'm going to use a shifter cable. no modifications needed and doesn't get used as often and as violently as a normal brake.
