DI2 and chainrings

I'd like to set up DI2 on our bikes using the existing FSA SL-K triple cranks. Are there any matched chainrings that would fit the 74 and 130 middle position? I would like to use 34/46 or 34/48 rings, but 34/50 would probably work.

What other options are there?

We need the 34T small ring so using the outer two positions won't work.

Specialites makes Zelito 74mm inner chainrings with 24 to 36 teeth and Alito 130mm middle chainrings with 38 to 46t. If you need larger 48 or 50t rings then you can use any outer rings. Just add a few spacers to the inner rings to clear the chain. None of these rings are matched set, but I can't tell the difference in the shifting compared with my old FSA SLK lite or my single's DA matched sets.

No matched chainring sets exist for 74/130mm bcd except for the inner 2 rings of a triple ring group. This means you will not find matched chainrings of the sizes you need for those triple cranks.

I experimented with Specialites TA rings (30/48) but incurred problems shifting up to the 48 Alize due the abrupt shoulder edge. The best combo I found was the Stronglight CTS 48t ring + their 30t (ordered from xxcycles.com, Germany) which also seem to hold up well. Specialites TA rings wear faster.

I am trying to do something very similar with Di2 utlizing an existing triple.

Justcrankn, did the conversion work of a 74bcd with a 34 and a 50 on the 130bcd. How was the shifting performance?

Is it possible to add a spacer somehow to the FD to move the FD outward to use only the 2 larger chainrings?

We're using twocycle's Stronglight 48/30 combo with Ultegra Di2 FD and SLK/light tandem cranks (11-32 cassette). Works great! Sometimes I would like to have a 34 granny but the added gearing range of the current combo is excellent as long as you don't mind spinning out at ~35 mph.

I use a SRAM FD clamp with their integrated chain catcher. It seems really well made and plenty strong for the Di2 servo over the past 1500 miles (knock on wood). This is standard 68mm BB shell width and 135mm rear dropout witdh. Thanks twocycle for your thread on the subject (last year?).

Some have reported success with a 53/34t front ring combo. Intriguing, but not as much use of all the cassette cogs for my liking.

BTW, isn't xxcycles in France?

I believe that Santana's FD clamp is spaced out further than a standard Braze-on adapter.

+1, -1

+1: Yep, xxcycle.com is France based, not Germany. I confused it with another site I've ordered tires from.

-1: The Shimano Ultegra Di2 Derailleur Clamp is beefier for a few reasons. Caution on using FD clamps that do not provide a built in reinforcement area for the Shimano FD angle adjustment screw. With a Di2 FD, that can put a lot of force into the seat tube if using only the tiny stick-on plate for the screw's base plate. Also, I believe that using any skinny clamp with the Di2 FD will put a lot of point load force into the seat tube when the Di2 FD pushes hard against the big ring.
