Its a PF 30. the press fit.


It was something I pulled from my last tandem. I cant remember exactly my reason with the last bike but its partially weight and tooling. To ream the hole for the traditional shell post-weldment meant custom tooling. Park sells the pf30 reamer tool though and its useful if I went to make another bike saving me a trip to the bike shop.

Im using a Saint caliper in the front as well.
As mentioned, you can see the routing quite well in the detailed rear shot. Are you asking for another picture of a different angle?

How do you like the Saint calipers with Ultegra levers? I'm just curious if you found a neat way to attach the hydraulic brake housing. It's a minor detail that enhances a custom build.

The saint calipers are great so far. We don't live in any mountainous regions though so I probably wont be able to give feedback on their capacity.


I just used a normal Saint brake hose and they threaded right into the ultrgra levers.


The brake hose to the rear uses welded on fittings with the plastic C shaped clips. its not as clean as an internal routing but I couldn't find suitable tube to use for an internal routing. I would have had to use something steel or ti/carbon (which were both super $) and epoxy them into the frame. If I build another frame I might just suck up the $150 it would cost in materials and do it internally. The remainder of the frame tubes were ~$300 so the internal routing bits would be a substantial cost increase.

This is really nice. Reminds me of my tandem. How stiff is it?

a quick ride around the neighbourhood so far makes it feel pretty stiff.... which is nice, my last tandem was a little flexy along the length of the top tube.


There is likely a happy medium somewhere.

The bike is an obvious upgrade over the last one. the fork is amazing, the frame is perfect and the wheels are great. Everyone already knows DI2 is flawless, the hybrid saint brakes system with the 785 levers keep in line with shimano hydraulic expectations.


The whole thing is great. its not an issue towing our thule and holding a steady 30km/h with that aerodynamically terrible brick of a thule until we hit a hill (either up or down).


The only thing I might change at some point is the tires. I couldn't make up my mind so I tossed the wire bead 25c Continental Ultra Sport tires back on from the last bike. They do the job though so I might just run them until they are done.
