My new Tandem

Picked up this mid '90s Burley Samba today. It is in excellent condition. Set me back $125.

New to us Tandem

My wife and I picked up a new to us 2008 Santana Sovereign Aluminum frame. I can hardly believe we found it in one of our local bike shops. Actually it was my sister who found it for us. She and my brother in-law have been biking since the early 2000's and bought their Sovereign in 07. They made a Seattle to Boston ride and then 2 years ago from Corpus Christi Texas to the Canadian border then made it within 145 miles from home before their rear wheel disintegrated. They have logged almost 40,000 miles on that thing, not bad for a couple in their late 50's. We however do not have such aspirations and plan to just ride locally. We bought it in July and have done around 500 miles, not bad for a couple of rookies in our early 50's.

Good-lookin' Burley!

On the "tall" bike- I think when you get tall enough, frame prices actually drop on some of the older single bikes- an "average" sized frame is apparently easier to sell used.

After reading about Rudy and Kay and their exploits in tandem riding made me feel pretty wimpy. Holy cow, the best part of that is the potential that my wife and I have to be able to do this for a lot of years. The sad part is that we live in an area that has very long winters and therefore the riding season isn't as long as we would like it to be. It looks like the next step is cross country ski's, I guess where there's snow utilize it. Thanks for the inspiration Rudy. FF

Freedomflyer!
W-a-y back when in the mid-1970s we lived in Michigan and we would ride if it was dry out and a minimum of 20 degrees (above zero!)
And if there was good snow, Rudy would X-country ski.
Now we are a couple of woosses and live in the Tucson AZ area for 38 years where we can pedal TWOgether 13 months out of the year!
At ages 83/81 we are still doing great!
Pedal on FF!

You two are an inspiration... maybe we will someday see your post of a "century ride at the century age". Betting on you.
