Looking for tandem wheelset - 160mm spacing-where to buy?
We have an older Santana sovereign tandem with 160mm spaced rear wheel where the edco hub just recently cracked. Finding 160mm spaced hubs has been a bit of a challenge. Personally do not want to spend 1k plus on wheels - any resource for 160mm hubs or reasonably priced wheelsets.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Have you checked with Santana? I was thinking someone once said they have pretty good prices on 160 wheelsets. It looks like you are just looking for the rear so some of the tandem specialists might be a good place to check out as they would have 160 rear hubs and per-built wheels.

I bought my Spinergy wheels from House of Tandems in Texas. Rick is a nice guy and very knowledgeable.

Getting a replacement hub from Santana can be interesting.
I cracked a Hadley hub and Santana would not sell me a hub directly.
I had to drive to a local shop near Santana where the shop was the middle man. I literally waited for Santana guy to come and hand the hub to LBS guy who then handed it to me.
I paid the LBS for the hub.
Went home, rebuilt the wheel and all is good.

I did not think to contact Hadley directly at the time as I have bought parts directly from Santana over the years with no issue.
The hub purchase was just weird. Dont know why.
In the future I will try contacting Hadley direct if needed. I wonder if they would make a special drilling in the weird 160 spaced hub for me at a reasonable cost.
That weird 160 spacing really limits hub and drilling choices.
I too have visited Sherwood at the Ventana factory. Super nice people there.

A year or two ago two of my Santana/Hadley OEM hubs had cracked flanges. I contacted Hadley directly, sent the hubs back to them, and they sent me brand-new ones without any fuss. Pretty nice customer service!
For the OP, most any of the tandem shops around the country will be able to source you either 160mm hubs or built wheels. Or you can get them directly from Santana. I've bought things directly from them over the year, not sure what the deal was with Stevoo's experience. Maybe it's because I don't have a Santana dealer anywhere near me.
Santana has new Shimano/Velocity wheelsets on their site for $349. That's a pretty good price... https://www.santanatandem.com/Bikes/Components.html

If you're looking for something a little exotic, there is a new Rolf Prima wheelset with 160mm rear spacing for sale on my website: TandemClassifieds.com. Scroll down several ads.

we are more in market for strong and sturdy vs light and exotic.. a few extra spokes and ounces are no big deal.. anyone that has a used rear only or set - feel free to message me.
Thanks.
Thanks.
