Hi Tandemers, The Southern Tandem Rally will be held on October 11 – 14, 2018 in sunny Venice Florida (a silver rated bicycle-friendly community). We are offering flat rides of varying distances on Friday 10/12 thru Sunday 10/14. Registration includes T-shirts, surprise swag, an ice cream social on Friday night, barbeque lunch after Saturday’s ride and a gourmet Banquet dinner on Saturday night. The newly remodeled host hotel is offering a special rate for our group of $99/night including a full hot breakfast (make sure you make reservations with the front desk only – not central reservations). The hotel will extend the offer for additional days before or after for those wanting to extend their stay. There are plenty of great Gulf beaches, restaurants, museums, local shops, fishing and other things to pass your time after the ride. We have arranged for the timing to coincide with the Florida Tandem Rally about 2 ½ hours north of Venice in The Villages on the following weekend and there will be organized tandem rides during the week between events. BTW in case any tandem riders are not familiar with the term "rally" as it applies to this type of event, it is NOT a race. It is just a chance for tandem teams to meet up and ride together with other tandems as well as spend a social 3-day weekend with folks with a common interest. My wife and I have attended and enjoyed many tandem rallies, and have volunteered to host this one for no monetary gain as our way of giving back to the tandem community.
