Does anyone here know anything about a recumbent side-by-side tandem made by a company called
Buddy Cycle? Not much information on the internet and it appears the company is no longer in business, but...

I kind of would like to know because I just won an auction for one on e-bay and hopefully will be going to pick it up within the next day or two.

What I'd like to know is: How sturdy the bike is and how it handles. Also, is it easy to pedal and steer? Basically, will it be a good choice to take to Florida to try to interest my 70 year old mother in riding?

She suffers from pain in her knees and hip, but it's not bad enough to warrant surgery. Her physician's been encouraging her to try cycling but...stationary bikes bore her, a regular bike probably isn't wise at her age. I had severe pain in my knees that went away completely after just a few weeks of cycling, so I'm thinking if I can get her on a tandem with me, she may go along with buying a "trike" for her after I have to return home.

Regardless, my husband is excited about the prospect of us riding a side-by-side tandem!

Any information on this bike would be greatly appreciated!

I saw your post of about 5 years ago. Did you ever try the bike? There is one for sale near me. It looks very awkward to ride. Can you give me any info about its? Thanks Fred fswark@charter.net

If you do a Google Search on the terms 'sociable tandems' you'll find several entries that may be of interest. The second hit .. a Blog .. has a lot of useful commentary in the reply section under the initial entry and photos.

I have a Buddy bike but it is not a recumbent. It is a side-by-side tandem based on a mountain bike frame. I can tell you that it is a bit cumbersome to get used to, but 2 riders with good balance and skills can learn it pretty quickly. It is really pretty easy and lots of fun once you get the hang of it. One thing to consider is that it is wider than a regular tandem, so you need a wide lane to use it on.

This is definetly a recumbant style. It looks awkward. I am going to try to look at it later this week and see how it rides Thanks Fred

They were absolute crap. I did a few frame repairs on them but quit as I had to charge more than I felt the thing was worth. Badly welded, and poorly designed and that's just the frames. Terrible execution of almost every detail.
