Touring with a Tandem ????

I was just wondering if any of you tandem riders tour at All cause that would be pretty fun.

We like to tour 'light'. Credit card and 22 lbs. of gear and we're gone for a weekend.

We purchased a B.O.B. trailer this winter and hope to try our first tandem (or any bike) touring later this year.

We've done a few weekend self-contained tours with our tandem and have had a blast. We tow a trailer supplemented by front panniers. Biking, eating, and camping all rolled into one!!!

We're hoping to do some weekend touring this year on our tandem. It'll be our first try at touring on any type of bike. We also have a week long tour we're planning with our club, but it will be sagged. That's all the time off we have.

In the past we haven't had the right camping gear for touring, but have been aquiring bits and pieces now and then. Our last big thing to purchase is a trailer to haul the gear. We can't put a rack on the front of our bike, so a trailer seems to be the way to go.

My 7 year old daughter and did a weekend ride in the Everglades. From the reception center to the Flamingo campground was approximately 40 miles. She made it both ways and I was one proud Papi. We were completely self-contained and had a blast. I hope to post a more detailed account and pictures soon. Get out there and do it!

We did a ten day trip last year and are planning a 10 day this year - we have some members of our who went from the artic circle to Keywest in 2005. I posted their site awhile back - an amazing journey. I am planning a trip across the United States for 2008 and a North to South 2007 - unfortunately my partner won't go so it will be myself on a single and 2 tandems.

My daughter (4.5 yo) and I recently did 45 miles to Weston Bend, MO on our triplet. We pulled a two wheel trailer fully loaded. We camped over night and came back the next day. Fantastic time, but of course lots of work. That was our longest trip to date. We have also registered for the Bike Across Kansas, 485 miles in 8 days. This trip is supported, they take our gear from one site to the next.

We've been cycle camping since 1982 and since 1990 we do this by tandem. Our Santos looks like this in full "cycle camping dress"

We tour on our THorn Adventure. It is the main reason we brought her. We spent 2 month in South and West Australia last year and on the 14th April 2006 we fly to Marseille for a 3 month tour , flying out of Birmingham UK on the 11th July. We go fully self contained, camping and cooking our own meals. As far as we are conserned a tandem is the only way for a couple to tour. As you can chat, get to the top and bottom of hills together, arrive at your destination together etc. Sue would not tour on singles full stop the end.
We love it. Touring is the reason we ride bikes.
Cheers Brian & Sue
