At the Gulf of Mexico at the end of Cross Florida. 168 Miles, 8hours 29 minutes.

Too tired to take a picture with the bike before we changed.

Carbonello -

BTW, the photographer decided that he'd had enough trying to draft the tandems into the headwind that he didn't stand a chance going back on Canada with a tailwind. Had a more leisurely return back to Los Altos with Don and Amy.

It can understandably be hard to sit in the draft of a bike generating 550+ watts for extended periods of time...

We met an amateur photographer at Little Grove on our ride yesterday, he kindly agreed to take some pictures of us and email them to me. We did 36km on back roads and cycle paths, it was windy but we managed to dodge the showers that were rolling in off the Southern Ocean. Little William on the back loves the tandem except when we are going slow, he shouts 'go! go! go!'.

I hope your degree is not in English; it is, "... girlfriend and me..."

Just avoid the MS150 and other event weekends. Horrendous amount of uncontrolled, unconscious (ie: brain dead) traffic. Very, very dangerous. Otherwise it is nirvana... flat, quiet, scenic, ice cream at Harrison or Wallace and the Mission Inn restaurant in Cataldo.

Hey Steve, we reside in your general area (as you can see from my profile) and try to do the Cataldo->Harrison and Cataldo->Wallace routes a few times each year (the car drive frequently stops us from going as is more convenient to start riding other routes from home).

Based on the popularity of the 2011 NWTR and many tandem sightings around here, we have been wondering if there are any semi-organized tandem clubs riding in this region?

mje:
We sold our house in Highlands Ranch in 2008, moved up here for the great summers and very few thunder storms.

Team Fab:
Coming from traffic clogged Vancouver, U want to drive that route? Kidding. I grew up in Van. area. We did our first tandem test rides out in Chilliwack->Harrison.

There is some really nice riding in this area for up to 50 mile or so jaunts. Beyond that it requires some imagination to find extended riding. Palouse (Cheney), and NW Spokane seem to be better suited to really long rides, though frequently very windy.

If so I will have to plan a road trip.

Yes paved the whole way and it would make a nice summer vacation destination. If you can handle some fine crushed gravel while your out here check out the Hiawatha trail. https://www.ridethehiawatha.com/ It's a must ride for any cyclists. The CDA trail has a good FB page along with the web site listed in the post below. There is a 6 mile 3% hill from the Plummer trail head to Heyburn State park where the old rotating rail road bridge is located.

A few pics from some rides.

towcicle: I believe we have crossed paths on the trail last year. We try to ride there 2 or more times a month doing 30 and 40 miles rides. Haven't heard of any tandem clubs in this area and we did plan on riding the NWTR this year in Bellingham but it was cancelled as you probably all ready know. We spend time riding on the Centennial Trail, Fish lake and Columbia Plateau trails and the secluded roads in the Deer park area.
