A VeloNews posting that I felt could have some relvance here

Being a recent convert from Shimano to Campy (due to the feel at the levers, in particular because of the capability of trimming the front derailleur), it's nice to know that I can broaden my wheel possibilities to any option out there. In case you don't visit Velo News' site - http://www.velonews.com/article/7340...rs-with-a-sram

Hmm - does Sram make a long cage Red rear derailleur? If not - only the fittest tandem teams running double cranks will be able to take advantage of this. I use the cable reroute - never a problem.

Further down the article they also reference another site where they talk about an adapter to run a Shimano rear derailleur with Campy shifters.

The Shimagnolo mentioned in the article by Louis is no longer produced. You can still find them now and again, but you need to be sure you find the right one for your application.

The JTek Shiftmate is now the more commonly used adapter and they seem to work just fine so long as you use standard stainless steel derailleur cable and avoid the more narrow "slick wire" cables. If you use the slick wires, the roller cam tends to fall victim to some precession and rotates out of alignment every now and again. It's a good idea to check and make sure that the cable cross-over is sitting in the 1:00pm position now and again, per the instructions.
