Chain Holder for Tandem
 

When transporting our tandem with a rear rack, I take off the wheels, so that it doesn't stick out past the car. Unfortunately that leaves the chain free to rub against the chainstay.

I'm looking for something to hold the chain in place with the wheel off. I've found the Pro Gold hub master, but not in a tandem size.

However I have two issues with the Bike Medicine Chain holder, both relating to the fact it doesn't go across the dropouts: 1) it won't provide any support to the frame in an airline case, which the Hub master would, and 2) it appears the chain could jump off fairly easily and you're back to square one.

Anybody know where to get the Hub master or similar device for a 145 dropout?

Also anyone using the Bike Medicine chain holder?

I use the Pedro's chain keeper and it works very well on my hitch rack. If you want something to go all the way across just get a cheapo rear tandem axle and use your own quick release. http://www.performancebike.com/produ...07-NCL-TOP.jpg

Go to hardware store and pick up a piece of piping foam that is pre-split. Place it over chainstay; easy on/off.
And if you are really fussy, then use a piece of twine/wire/ziptie to hold chain against the pipe foam.

I used to just use a screwdriver or a wood dowel or something similar.

Stick the dowel under the top run of the chain and prop the two ends behind the seat stays. The chain tension holds it in place.

We use a bungie. Just pull the chain toward the seat with a short bungie cord.

Wow! You guys are hi-tech! Whatever happened to the good old rubber band to the brake block trick? ;)
