Yesterday, I started to install the Arai brake and I remarked that there is not much tread that engage the nut that hold the actuation arm to the plate. Is this normal? I hope my description is clear enough for you to figure out what I am talking about.

As I recall on our bike (Phil Wood hubs), there are several spacers on the left rear axle - inboard of the nut. One of these spacers is about the thickness of the shoe plate. Remove this spacer and install the plate in its place.

Don't fully tighten the outboard nut until you pull the lever to push the shoes out. This will center the shoes with the inside of the drum. Once you have done this, tighten the nut.

This is the procedure as I recall.

I think I was not clear enough with my explanation. I am trying to includes a pictures for a better understanding. The line on picture indicate the nut that has only few tread engaged. I would like to know if this is normal or not.

I don't have the drum with me now but I recall that the stud does not protrude much past the top of that nut on ours either. If the stud is flush with the top of the nut, you're OK. If the stud is below flush, I think something is wrong. If that is the case, I would take the nut & the arm off & see if it was assembled wrong or if the stud is just not long enough.
