Tandem pilot Wanted!
Hi, I reside in S. Cal. and own a beautiful tandem. I'm looking for a tandem pilot. I have been a cyclist for 10 years and enjoy it.

Tempting offer, but I'm nowhere near S. Cal., and already have a stoker. I'm thinking the tandem forum is precisely the wrong place to post your request, you know what I mean? Good luck, though!

You'd think so, wouldn't you...
But, if you checked her posting history you'd find that no one from the SoCal regional forum ever replied to a very similar posting that she made back on October 28th. In fact, it was only the Alt Bike Culture forum and this forum where replies and some dialog came about.
Now, perhaps there are some folks like myself who have sent PMs; one can only hope.
To the OP, hang in there.

Do you ride a solo bike too? Have you ridden with the soCal bunch. I know a few of them, good people.
Maybe you should ride on one of their social group rides and connect with someone that way. That way you can learn a bit about them (personality, riding style, background, etc) before letting them pilot you around on your tandem.

As an FYI from her initial posting....
Hi, I reside in S. CA. I have been a cyclist for 10 years, and enjoy it immensely since I'm an outdoors girl. I own a Cannondale beautiful blue, with disk brakes, have new for two years, and ride awesome. I am visually impaired and in great shape and ready to ride more often. If you are interested and don't have experience I will teach you, fine if you do have experience. You will enjoy the experience whether you've been on a tandem or not. Come on and try this new experience.
Cheers!

I don't know about everyone else, of course... but when I look at the forums, I go to C&V, commuting, folding bikes, touring, tandems, recumbents... and almost never go into the regional forums. There's just too much to look at it all! So I guess I suggest OP look in some of the other forums. There's a sticky in folding bike forum, for example, about a regular ride the SoCal folder people do. I've never gone on that ride, of course; it's pretty far from New Jersey. But it might be worth finding out when they're doing a ride, and see if you can lure someone away....

Wow! This reminds me of the joke about one engineer with a new bike telling another that he encountered a girl riding by on a bike who took off all of her clothes and said "take what you want". The other replied "good choice - her clothes probably wouldn't fit you anyway" (something like that anyway).

Really, I can't believe an unattached woman in SoCal would have any trouble finding a pilot. But I am curious about the tandem. It would be rude to ask the girl in lace to post a photo of herself.

In all seriousness, I just got the whole story. If there is someone near her that could pilot for her, that would be way cool.
My brother lives in Ventura County, and I'm going to see who he knows down south that would be interested.

Local bike club may a source for pilot or post an add in their newsletter.
Have ridden with visually impaired stokers . . . quite rewarding.

Okay, I'll go all in, and fully politically incorrect here; this lady has been riding 10 years, so she ought to be in pretty decent shape, she's posted looking for ride partners, a good sign for outgoing personality, she's already got the bike and she's visually impaired.
Opposites attract so;
Fat, shy, cheap, ugly guys will soon be lining up to get a chance.
I'm "over married" myself, so I know that it's possible to achieve beyond your goals. Single guys with or without issues listed above, put your inhibitions aside and go for it!!!!

Don't know where in southern California you are, but there is a tandem group that's a part of the orange county wheelmen, the San Diego Tandem club, and the MASCOTS in the San Fernando Valley.

You might check with with the local bike clubs to see if you can find a captain.

Pity the OP doesn't live here in Oz, as I've passed my working with V.I. course and am now waiting...waiting...waiting for Vision Australia's insurance company to approve coverage for my client and I when out riding.

Interesting that we only see the posts requesting a pilot but no other responses. I wonder if potential wannabe pilots are winding up in pickle jars somewhere...
